STEEL GUITARS Review (January 2008):

I am looking at wedding bands for my Penang wedding to be held in December and I have came across numerous negative accounts of the band STEEL GUITARS.

I have heard first hand accounts from my dear friend who had STEEL GUITARS at their wedding in December that the band was very unprofessional. The band was rude to the couple and their friends as well as insensitive over particular needs the couple had outlined. Timeline to the night's event was not followed, instead the band decided to "improvise" and dishonor the couple's wishes on how the night should be. The bride and groom was put on the spot as "amusement" in their own wedding reception because the band claimed they saw need to "liven" things up. To top that off, the singer(s) was a disappointment from the choice of songs that did not concur with the couple's request of a classic jazz composition.

Every wedding couple plans to have their special, tailored wedding reception – looking at details from the invitations to the reception event's music, etc. STEEL GUITARS would not be the band for you seeing that their M.O. (modus operandi) is to perform "their very own concert".

Another account I received was from my parents. They had recently attended a friend's wedding where STEEL GUITARS were the entertainment of the evening. My parents together with their friends reported to me that the band's performance was outright pathetic. The vocal from the band was nothing to shout; in fact they were down right awful - amateurish. The tone of the evening as delivered by the band was nothing close to classy and/or elegant but tacky.

My dear friend wrote to the band voicing her disappointment with their performance and was presented with a very non-apologetically response. According to the band, and I quote:

" As far as Steel Guitars Concept Entertainers is concern, the band leader is there, the function is successful and we don't look into details. That's how Steel Guitars handle function - the impromptu /emotional zone/atmosphere and that's what make Steel Guitars famous internationally. That is our service to our clients." – STEEL GUITARS (January '08)

STEEL GUITARS does NOT LOOK INTO DETAILS!! Please let this be a warning for couples who are searching for bands. If you have decided to go with STEEL GUITARS or have booked their services, I suggest a black and white contract with all YOUR specifications to ensure no "surprises" on your night's event. The contract should also specify and include what happens if the band decided to break the terms as outlined on the contract.

Hi twilight_twix,

I agree with you fully on STEEL GUITAR. Also watch out the boss called RICHARD. You will regret using them! And they are not cheap also!

Hi, wonder you have heard a solo singer by the name of Daniel Boone? He sings for wedding, birthday and any other functions... He has beautiful voice... biggrin.gif

Hi.
Yep! I recommended a friend to listen to his Tuesday evening audition. It was OK, but on my friend's son's wedding day the musicians that turn up were different. They were very amateaur and disappointing. He shortchanged us. Watch out!

I have a contact for bands. The boss is Ronnie and the company name is Katron. His mobile number is 017-477 5297.

They can find different style of bands as per your request. And their pricing is very reasonable.

I heard Steel Guitars charges very high and the profit all goes into the boss' pocket, not the bands ohmy.gif

I totally agree!! My best friend hired Steel Guitars for her wedding (a couple of weeks ago - Sept 2009) despite reading bad online reviews because she attended their Tuesday practice session. It is true that during the session they will promise you the sky and the moon and the band actually sounded good during that session.

What happens at the actual dinner is that the band was LOUD and NOISY and they like to 'tease' the bride and bride groom and make them do long kisses and stuff; making fun of them to entertain the crowd. The loudness makes the atmosphere not condusive for dinner conversations and it is as if the band takes the limelight instead of the wedding couple. I've attended other weddings who uses other bands like Chakora (not sure spelled correctly or not) where the band adds to the joyful atmosphere of the weddings without taking away the limelight. They provide wonderful music and more of the 'background' type than a 'concert' type like Steel Guitars. If you plan on having an elegant and classy wedding reception - forget about using Steel Guitars - they will bring down the class of your reception like it is a cheap concert.

The reason I am writing this is to avoid what happens at my best friend's wedding to other brides-to-be. For us gals.. wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event and we want our special day to be SPECIAL, not ruined - especially after hours of hard work to choose the perfect flowers, perfect gown, perfect dinner, perfect gift, perfect music which in the end was not perfect.

Remember - the band is very important during your wedding. It can create or destroy the atmosphere - especially the emcee and sound system. They had this emcee named Jeffrey who cracked lousy jokes which was not funny and make fun of the couple (although we already warn them not to), some in a 'dirty' way. Imagine what all the old aunties there will think! Jeffrey is also one of the singers in the band - he sings amateurish and is a little out of key at times.

Before we engage Steel Guitars, my best friend has read some bad reviews and we specifically told them that we do not want rock songs during the wedding and we want the music to be softer and we do not want teasing and stuff on the couple. They agreed that they will no go overboard and convinced us that they will go mild on their teasing and assured us that the crowd will have fun on that night... oh yes.. the crowd DID have fun.. at the couple's expense! The music was still as loud and there are some noisy numbers. Halfway during the wedding, my best friend was almost in tears during her dress change. She felt that her special nite was ruined. I tried to cheer her up because if she cries, she is gonna ruin her make up.

My best friend just didnt want to have anything to do with them at all! She just wants to forget about the whole episode but i am feeling angry on her behalf. That is why I am writing the above to share with all.
