Rota Virus & Phneumcocol

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My baby is now about 3mths. Doc ask me to give him the injection (rota virus & phneumcocol). The pricing for the injection is quite expensive too. I also think that this injection is too heavy for my baby.

Rota Virus RM180 X 2 times

Phneumcocol RM300 X 4 times

um...do you think, i should give this injection for my baby?

Rotovirus is taken orally. It's a cold liquid and there is no discomfort for the baby. PC is an injection and it does hurt because my baby screamed! However, you should take the vaccination. It is highly recommended.

I gave my bb Rotovirus when my bb 2 mth old. and agreed with yummymummy, rottovirus is orally taken.

My paed did told me, for some bb, after take rotovirus might have some diarear prob.

as for PC, due to budget constraint, i'm still considering. it's depending on the age of ur bb. only 2 is needed if bb is 1 year old. instead of 4. i might only give PC jap for my bb when she turn 1 years old.

Yupe , it is correct , rota virus is a liquid one , bb shall like it , Phneumcocol will be a bit painful but for the sake of our baby health , no choice mah.

If only you seldom bring your bb explore to outside world such as shopping center and only consume bb product then rota virus i believe you can avoid it , we can't really exclude our bb from our own social life.

I gave both. My paed told me if my baby is being taken care of by baby sitter, it's better to vaccinate. What askray said is true, we cant avoid from going out with baby.

My daughter has taken both the Rotavirus and Pneumococcal vaccinations. I agree that these vaccinations are very expensive and since my daughter took these vaccinations at Sunway Medical Centre it is double expensive for us. But no choice cos we're comfortable with the paediatrician there and do not want to change.

 thanks for the info. I also feel that i should give this 2 vaccination for my BB. But my husband keep on disagree with this because the vaccination is too heavy and private doctor want to earn $$. I already ask few of my friends, they all also didnt give their BB this vaccination. Maybe is because they go to gov. clinic and i go to private clinic.

for this 2 vanci , It only applicable to private clinic but not govn., i also though of go Gov. Clinic but they don't offer.

I google around for those vacci , there are 2 company one of them got no negative feedback ,another one got...I believe SGK is safe to use...

I don't go for the paediatrician in those 'hotel' hospital , try talk to other people around those paediatrician , they will recommend which doctor outside is good. Now my baby got 3 paediatrician in KL(ok) , Klang(ok), Subang (expensive)

well, my baby took hers at private hospital. before we decided on it, we asked around & am surprised that it's cheaper at private hospital compare to outside clinic (even after adding consultation fee)!

so, call up your paed to check the price & ask around. i think the reason is becos hospital will buy these medicines in bulk, so they get better pricing.

good luck!

I am still considering if my BBs should take them. Since i have twins, the cost is VERY high for me....

I heard that in overseas countries like UK, these shots are free given by the government....sigh...only here, everything cost money.

Vaccinations are not free in Switzerland - they are paid for by insurance carriers (which means I still pay for it!) and unlike in Malaysia, it is not compulsory. In fact, the list of vaccines recommended varies from state to state!!!!! Where I stay (Neuchatel), it is the following:

Diphtheria

Polio

Pertussis

Haemophilus Influenzae (can cause meningitis)

Measles-mumps-roseola and, under certain circumstances, Hepatitis B

However, the government is trying to get people to vaccinate their kids in order to avoid epidemics spreading around (like measles and etc).

Here is a link to some of the vaccinations available in Switzerland and WHY it is important to vaccinate your kid. Maybe you can read up and it and decide then.

Personally, I wouldn't save on something as important as my child's health. If my child gets sick, the cost of treating and the risk of permanent damage may be higher than the cost of the vaccine itself. I would make exceptions for things like chickenpox though...

i do plan to give my baby both vaccination. but i will only start at month 4. i check with Damansara CHild specialist Rota 130 and PC is 280. consultation is RM 20. Doc told me i can give both on the same day 2 weeks after baby normal monthly injection.

if we start early , we will need to give more times as small bb cannot have antibody so early. need more injection to boost up the antibody.

Doc mentioned normally get it at 2 , 4 , 6 months and 1 year. so i decided to start at 4 months coz bb might expose when bring him out.

I gave my bb both the vaccines. The rotavirus first 2 dose she took in Gleneagle and the last 1 she took in a private paed in Kepong.

The price is more expensive when we took it at the private paed in Kepong. Hard to compare coz his normal consultation is cheaper than the Gleneagle, just the vaccines is more expensive.

However I choose the private paed in Kepong coz he's very patience and detail and gave very simple explanation to us.

To my disappointment the paed that I went in Gleneagles are too rushy and always no time for us. Very obvious comparison is: There's one time I notice a white color thing in my bb belly button. The Gleneagle's paed that I went said is a normal thing and just the skin. But I was not convince so I brought my bb to the other paed in Kepong, he said it's a cotton and he took it out. See...how a high reputation paed can miss such a simple thing. I guess is because he's busy with other appointment.

Please have your babies take the RotaVirus Jab.. It is expensive, please MAKE NOISE to our MINISTRY OF HEALTH. but you have to get your babies to take this Jab.

My daughter spend 2 days in the hospital and I weeped watching her in needles and seeing her vomitting and purging. She could have died if we didnt bring her to the hospital. It was a private hospital.

I am not sure whether government hospital is suitable.. but RotaVirus is dangerous to a young baby! The Minister of Health should make this as a standard and reduce the cost of the jab!

Take the jab as soon as possible.

recently i brought my boy for his first dose of pneumococcal. v r thinking of rotavirus too, but somehow the paediatricians v spoken too are of the view dat pneumococcal immunisation is of a higher priority for the babies.

Dear all,

let me share something abt rotavirus to u girls. 1st: need to chk w dr what kind of rotavirus vacinnation dr give, its 2 doses call Rotarix or 3 doses call Rotateq and i would higher recommend u all to go for Rotateq as its provide broader coverage up to 98% vs Rotarix only cover up to 80% and its very important for baby to get vaccinate as u all may know that rotavirus is coz by diarrhea and vomiting and for serious ones this will last up to 9 days and this will leads to dehydration and cause death.

For rotateq is very convenient, 1st jab take within 3 mths old and 2nd and 3rd doses is one mth interval as long as u complete it within 6 mths old. Whre u chk the pricing for RM180 each x 2 times its for sure rotarix and pls dun go for that as the coverage is not so powerful?? may be i can recommend u to other dr where can offer cheaper price?

PM me if u need to find out more info abt that.
