now gomen hospital aint like those datuk nenek's time where really kaw kaw kena... of course there are a lot of negative cases where people tend to focus on, but how about those people have no problem going thru it? no one seem to talk about it and praise gomen's hospital.

end of day, bb in your stomach... you are the one giving birth and you gotta decide where you feel most comfortable and safest. btw, my wife felt that she is more comfortable and safe in private clinic, ended up my poket pecah for rm5.2k

good luck.

hehe... i also try to save my husband pocket $ lor...

my husband also mentioned to me about PPUM. What is the difference between PPUM and general hospital in term of facilities in doctor? is it better?

I am a government servant, can I entitle for free delivery at PPUM? What is the procedure to deliver at PPUM? as far as I know, if I go general hospital, I only need to bring the red book with me when I want to deliver. No need referral letter or anything.

PPUM have a lot of training students??

Thanks for info.

sherwawa,

when your etd is around the corner, they will ask where you want to deliver. then you can choose where ever hospital that have delivery unit. be it in your own hometown, etc.

they will do the rest like referal, etc.

my wife told them she gonna do it in private clinic, so they just take some notes on their own recording.

our case is typical mismatch but they have no problem with it. ie:

- check up in JB's klinik desa

- giving birth in private gynae in JB

- informed JB's klinik desa that my wife has delivered

- JB's klinik desa people came twice to check my wife and bb

*thereafter wife went back hometown for confinement*

- Kluang's klinik desa follow up with visits

and now my bb going to take her jabs in Kluang's Klinik desa as my mom is looking after my bb. problem is when my bb back JB, can i go back JB's Klinik desa for jabs? i think shouldnt' be any problem... so long talk nicely with them and come out with all sort of pity excuses....

kekekekeke....

you have deal with so many clinics :P. At the beginning I went to private hospital for my check up, then go to DBKL clinic, tomorrow I will go to PPUM for the first time.

How to get the nurse service from DBKL clinic? I just need to call them and said I delivered already?

What is a PPUM?

SO far i am getting my checkups done at KKIA Klang, and i must say they are pretty good, although consume a lot of time for each check up. Planning to deliver in private maternity home in JB, doc strongly recommended by my cousin and friend who had good experiences there

Hi all

Just wan to make sure, why is it so important to make a visit at klinik kesihatan ibu dan anak?

Can't I just have all my checkups at private hospitals/clinics, until I give birth?

I plan to give birth at private hospital, as well as to have my baby's injections there.

By all mean please do so. You will help to reduce the workload of KKIA staff and waiting time for the pregnant ladies.

Since you have already decided to deliver at a private hospital under a private doctor care. It is really no point to pay a visit to KKIA. KKIA is manned by mainly nurses and sometime a medical officer. Their care is definitely not superior than your private specialist. By going to KKIA this will increase their workload since they have to do the same antenatal follow up routine again at the KKIA. These antenatal follow up don't add any value to your care because you are already under good care by a private specialist and moreover you don't eventually deliver at a public hospital. KKIA is always congested and your visit will definitely increase the waiting time of others who actually want to have antenatal follow up and delivery at public hospitals.

Depend whether you want private wing or public wing. In public wing, the charges is in hundreds of ringgit for delivery. In private wing, the charges is same as private hospitals / in thousands depsite the same facilities used except that you are taken care by the doctor of your choice.

Hi,

I think u have misunderstood my questions.

What I meant was, is it necessary for preggers to go to KKIA for health records purposes?

Is it necessary for the health ministry to keep records of every malaysian preggers for their own purposes?

And By not attending KKIA will it do any differences?

Actually a lot of ppl are going to both private and government for checkups, not only preggers, but also normal body checkup.

I just want to know by going to gov, besides cost saving, what are the other benefits and importances.

Thank You

No, it is not necessary. In Klang Valley, the KKIA clinics are run by DBKL and hospitals are run by MOH. Both of them don't share record.

KKIA also don't keep records as they will give you an antenatal book (the pink book) to carry around.

They only keep record for post delivery home visiting (for some high risk cases). After that your record will go to archive and will never seen / being retrieved again.

Even for normal body check up, this is only available in certain hospital on request.

The difference of KKIA and private care are:

KKIA

Care by nurses / medical officer

May not have ultrasound

Lots of lectures like breast feeding, postnatal care etc

Community based care

Risk stratification before referral

Free supplement / immunization

Postnatal Home visit (available by request / high risk case)

Zero / low cost

Private care

Care by same specialist

Ultrasound each visit

None, if available usually with cost.

Individual based care

Generally depend on ability of specialist

Supplement / immunization with cost

Postnatal Home Visit not available

High cost

The facilities are all in public hospitals NOT KKIA. What you want is hospitals that safe for ALL level of complications. Working attitude is much better compare to 20 years ago. Your will be surprise that the hardware is much better than most private hospitals. Try Putrajaya, Serdang or Ampang Hospital. You will be surprised on the type of facilities and room that you got and the price you pay (normally less than RM100) for delivery.

NONE. And why need the 3D / 4D? In normal pregnancy, this 3D/4D is purely for entertainment of the parent without any value of the management of pregnancy. It is an ''unnecessary'' cost for some. A normal 2D is sufficient for measurement of the fetal parameter for assessment of the fetal wellbeing and growth. 3D /4D can't do the paramenter measurements. This is why in public hospitals 3D/4D is generally not available because it is a useless luxury beside taking a longer time to perform and contribute nothing to management of pregnancy.

Yes, KKIA usually only accept booking according to your residential address which is why they are community based.

Hi

I am going to deliver soon and my EDD is 6th Feb 2009. Actually I did went to both private and KKIA for throughout my pregnancy for check up.

I planned to deliver at Hospital Ampang cuz near my home and of course the main reason is cheaper as compare with private hospital as mentioned on previous post. But everytime I told my friend or everyone around me regarding my decision to deliver at govt hospital, I'd been blamed for stingy and never love my child cuz willing to take the risk to deliver at govt hospital. I really sad and scared when I listen to the comments. I just didn't clear what kind of risk did they mentioned about or even they can't eplained to me.

Sorry for my ranting, as I really need a clear picture, what is the different and risk btw govt hospital & private hospital. I really appreciate if someone could highlight to me on this.

Thank you.

Don't feel sorry for choosing the public hospitals. Thousands of babies had been delivered in public hospitals every month. Ampang hospital delivers about 500 babies per month and if you talk about experience, their midwives can be easily better than any of the private hospitals. The public hospitals is also well equipped and the most important thing is they have the best system for blood product support which often not provided by private hospitals. They also have doctors on call 24 hours stand by IN the hospitals as compare to private hospitals where the consultants or doctors will only called from home especially during after office hours.

The differences of public and private hospitals are as below:

Private hospitals:

You are only allowed to be admitted if you are able to pay the minimum deposit (except in a REAL emergency like baby's head half way out)

One to one care by your consultant doctor.

Better room or lots of smiles by the staff.

Less congested.

usually only dealing with low risk cases.

Doctors on call at home.

Higher cost

Public hospitals:

No rejection regardless you financial status or nationality.

Care by several level of doctors (but they have a system of monitoring from house officer - medical officer - specialist - consultant).

Better facilities in terms of OT, blood bank support but maybe less for room decoration or smile from staff.

Usually congested and full, you may have to stay in thrid class ward where 12-20 mothers sharing a ward.

Usually dealing with all kind of cases including high risk cases.

Doctors 24 hours oncall IN hospital for O&G, Anesthesia or surgical discipline.

Lesser / zero cost (you can choose not to pay and they won't stop you from going home).

So what's the shortcoming of public hospitals:

In simple words: if you are low risk cases, you will be likely managed by midwives / lower level of doctors in stead of specialist and consultants and staff generally don't smile at you. Also you cannot choose your doctor unless you know some of them personally.

If you are high risk cases, you will be likely managed by higher level of doctors such as senior medical officers / specialist / consultants.

Public hospitals doctor only interested in getting their job done without complication so that they can sleep well.

There maybe some minor complications such as unsatisfactory episiotomy stitch by inexperience staff due to their learning curve etc but rest assured all major op like LSCS are done by experienced trained staff.

Private doctors usually provide the best service and smile so that their reputation is protected and got referral from their ex-patients. So you will see they tend to take the lowest risk cases and refer the high risk cases.

So there is actually no right or wrong by choosing whichever hospital. If you can afford, the private hospital can provide more personalised service but I believe ALL doctors only have the patients best interest in their mind.

f00lgal, i'm not too sure how KKIA operates. the one that i go to, for abt a year it was the same nurses/staff all very nice & friendly. then the following year when i broughy my gal for injections, they had another bunch of nurses which weren't as nice compared to the earlier batch. i guess it all depends on the individual staff attitude? all the best in finding a good KKIA, it really does save a lot of money & even though the new staff was less friendly, they were performing their job as expected.
