Maternity Ward

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm TTC now, but the most headache part is I havn't located the hospital around my house which I feel comfortable with, for labour. I've visited a gynae in Assunta Hospital, he was good, but after visiting their Maternity Ward, i got a bit put-off becoz the ward is in the old building, overall looks quite old and dirty. And the nursery looks very dim too.... ( can't seem to keep my baby there... , mom also discourages...) My mom prefers I go to SJMC or Sunway as both my sisters delivered there too, but that's too far from my house....

Can anyone recommend any hospital within 20-min radius from Bdr Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras, eg. PJ, Kajang, Putrajaya etc.... Pls...

Ceetee,

Hi, I am staying nearby your area. I delivered my bb girl Specialist Centre HUKM. I am satified with the expertise of the gynea, facilities and the overall services. I would recommend you to consider the SCHUKM.

In fact, if are afford as well as willing to pay for delivery charges, there are quite a number of choices of medical centre/hospital which is within the radius. For example, Gleneagle at Jalan Ampang and Pantai Bangsar.

The most important criteria for selecting a hospital is whether the hospital has the facilities to handle when obstetric complications happen e.g. OT, blood bank, ambulance service (for tranfer purpose) etc. All obstetricians skill should be about the same, the only different is thier PR skill. For example when postpartum haemorrhage happen, can the hospital able to handle the situation. That's why I suggest to go to an established hospital be it private or public hospital. The doctors should work as a team not alone. I don't recommend shop lot maternity centre.

Yeah, somehow I agree to certain points you highlighted here. However, I do not really agree that all O&G skill should be about the same. Not sure if you have personally been to see a gynea or not, but generally I would say their skill would not be about the same. There are cases where gyneas made a wrong treatment/judgement and therefore cause the death of baby/maternal.

It is important to choose a medical centre/hospital which is established and it is also very important to choose a gynea is up to certain prestige.

Sorry, I am actually an obstetrician in private practice. In O&G, especially in private practice obstetrician usually only dealing with NORMAL cases. High risk cases usually referred to public hospitals. Many of the obstetricians joined private after only 6 months - 2 years of gazettment. But nevertheless most O&G specialists can manage 95% of the cases in private practice because generally cases in private practice are low risk cases. In fact all these cases can be managed at medical officer (trainee) level.

I had been the committee member of Confidential Inquiry of Maternal Mortality Committee in a particular state for years. There are many horror stories where mother died even their obstetricians were the well known established and famous one. The problem is usually not due to the obstetrician's skill but the facilities of the centre where they practice.

Hi Ceetee,

Among all hospitals u can find in or around Kajang area, i strongly recommend Britannia Women Specialist Centre.

The gynea thre (only one ) is Dr. Tan is a good gynea. I'd been there and certainly it doesnt feel like visiting a hospital cos they have this large lounge area for u to wait for ur turn...they also have coffea, milo, water for u to drink while waiting besides newspapers and magz to read. The environment is good and the place is clean. But, there is a standard opening hours that u shud check before going there. If u need more info, please ask me..i can share with u.

Hi all,

Thx very much for the feed-back....

maesy,

any good O&G in HUKM? How about their nurses & service? Gleaneagle is pretty far and MRR2 also jam-up... Pantai Bangsar is even further...

Fluene,

yeah, Assunta has got re-furbished lately, but the old wing stays put.... The maternity ward and nursery still @ old building....

I like the nurses & services there.... but the ward just looks so ~eerie~....

august,

Kajang Hospital is my last choice.... I heard lotsa bad story about them... my close buddy's colleague met with an accident last Feb, she had some internal bleeding. Hosp Kajang staff didn't take her case seriously, dragged her from morning till evening. She eventually died..... Now my buddy and her other colleagues are filing a suit to Health Ministry on this case..... :sauer2:

nckeat,

i agree with u, that's why i'm scratching my head still....

eunice, august, babysiew,

where is the Britannia in Kajang? I found 1 in Alam Damai, but that's a shoplot mc.... dunno how well is their facilities but for sure mom will say 'no'....

no epidural and she admitted there 3am and give birth 5am.

ceetee, I will recommend u gleneagles. Coz they work more profressional. U need not worry at all as they will do all the things for u. The most important thing is they are pro breast feeding. If u plan to breast feed ur baby, it's a very good choice. The only problem is the price is quite expensive.

I delivered my 2nd baby in HUKMSC. The environment there is ok as well, facilities are ok (coz supported by government) and the nurse in ward are quite patient and nice. But there are some minor issues I faced when I was there:

1) the nurse in labour room show face to me when I ask for pain killer (before I take epidural)

2) they are not pro breast feeding.. they keep my baby in baby room for the whole day, and bring me the baby at nite time only (even my hubby asked for baby as I need to BF her)

3) no choice on food provided.. but heard that they have enhance on the food..

4) difficult to get parking lot in the morning.. my MIL brought me food in the morning and she was hardly get a parking lot ..

I can't recommend my gynae to u as Dr Paul will work in Pantai hospital from April onwards.

If u opt for a cheaper hospital, HUKMSC is still considered ok lah..

There is 1 nice thing the doctor did during the labour.. right after he took the baby out, he put the baby on my chest for few second so that I can hug her and talk to her.. ya, the baby is not cleaned yet. The blood dirty my hand and clothes.. but the feeling is very nice! Coz i tried so hard to push and the baby is finally came out, and I can hug her right after the hard work and can tell her how much I love her..

I asked the nurse bring me the baby after they cleaned her for suckle, and they did it as well.. this is the reason I say the HUKMSC is still ok to consider..

I guarantee you Dr Tan BC will sent you to the nearest public hospital which is Kajang Hospital if any complication arise as he do not take any risk if any complication arise which is a good practice as Britannia is not a full service hospital.

ceetee,

The billing is as below:

Gleneagles in 2003:

1) 4 days 3 nites stay in 4 persons room

2) epidural

3) C-sec

4) due to my baby is only 36 weeks, he need to be monitored but not stay in incubator

the bill is 7k+ (better check for the price now as this is few years before)

HUKMSC in 2008:

1) 1 nite stay in single room

2) epidural

3) normal birth with vacuum

the bill is almost 3k

later on found out my gal has jaundice.. so admitted to HUKM again. She stay there for 3 days for RM800.
