zelda 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 Hi! Anyone been to Mandarin Palace in Federal Hotel? Is the food good or should I be considering to have my dinner instead in places like Nobel house or imperial place if quality of food is my priority? The deco looked very nice from the photo.... Melissa 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2006 zelda, Mandarin's food is good, :) for a hotel place. But I think Nobel House is much more nicer, better than TT group or Overseas.
fusionista 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2006 my mom went to a wedding dinner Mandarin Palace just recently, and she said that the deco and food was not bad.
micron 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2006 mandarin palace food is definately good. the interior is decorated like a palace, although it may be a little 'old' as this place has been around for quite some time. only problem is, this place may not be ideal if you are looking for a big banquet >300 pax as the restaurant is small with a small stage and many pillars.
zelda 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2006 thanks! Our guest list is about 150 pax. I think I will ask someone to check out the interior for me if it looks worn out.

violetlim 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 Hi Zelda, How was your wedding dinner there? food and service on that day good? i will had by wedding dinner there as well as i was so impress by their deco and that's wat i m looking for... coz PIL prefer chinese restaurant with non-halal food... one thing is the stage is small and not impressive.. ;)
ceetee 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2008 Hi, violet, how was your reception there?
SharonLee 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2008 Hi ceetee,i'm also having my dinner at Mandarin Palace on 27dec08. kinda worried actually coz no one i know attended dinner there before except my MIL. i chose that place also bcoz of her coz she say the food is nice when she attended a wedding dinner there early this year. seriously, i never even been to the place before. My MIL and FH made the bookings. u heard any comment about that place?anyway, i'm wondering if they provide projector for us to play the dvd for our guest. did u make any enquiry on that?
ceetee 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 Sharon, Mandarin Palace has got very unique environment, very 'imperial' and oriental feel. But there's a draw back, got pillars.... I still chose that place becoz' i wish to get away from the common 'ballroom' wedding reception. They do provide projector, but you have to request. Depending on your package, mine is free, some have to rent, RM600/night. But it's small, in the middle only....
SharonLee 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 Hi ceetee, i chose the RM888 package. so,hope got projector la. i will call and ask soon. Ya. i also felt the pillar is a real drawback. Hopefully wont block much of the view of my guest. if not, no point to play anything on the projector also. :(
ceetee 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 sharon, was your package price fixed? i booked last year Nov, the manager refused to fix the price as she said the ingredient price will go up.... when was your booking done?? Btw, i'm going to take rm888 too, but the projector was actually offered to us free becoz we don't wan their karaoke.... maybe if your package is the same, you can trade... i intend to rent 2 Plasma TV to be placed at the 2 sides for those guests seated there.... maybe in that way, it'll be better... ceetee 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2008 latest update, Mandarin Palace is giving me the same old price as at the date we booked, so i'm going for the RM888 package... will go for food tasting this saturday... will update.
ceetee 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 went for food tasting, yum yum... most of the dishes thumbs-up!!! esp the suckling pig.... ^_^
SharonLee 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 Hi ceetee, glad to hear that your food tasting was excellent. i am planning to go for food tasting on 12/9. btw, may i know which manager attended to u? mine is jackie.i'm also planning to omit the karaoke coz too noisy. hehe....hopefully, they also allow me to change to the projector. may i know how much they charge if wanna rent the lcd/plasma screen? i'm also afraid that the guest cant see the slideshow.and then, ru printing your own wedding invitation card or u r taking theirs? i know its included in the package but they are giving discount only rite? i saw the sample card. they only have one design and it's very simple. sorry, got so many questions to ask. hehe....just want to share some of your info. Thanks alot. :)
ceetee 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 hi, sharon,Yeah, the food was superb for hotel standard... i deal with Angie most of the time, she's very nice and easy to talk to.i'll be getting the plasma TV outside, not under Federal Hotel.I'm taking the invitation cards given by them, for my package, 60% of the number of pax is covered. There are 2 designs, yeah simple but i'm ok with it.... I'll be doing my own menu + table number card, coz theirs a bit old fashion, and i'll bring my own door gifts & Mandarin Palace is ok with it.... sinh 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Hi Ceetee and Sharon,I will be having my reception on Dec 6 and it will be earlier than both of you.Been to that place only once to have a look because I am based in Sg. Now lettingmy bro and dad to handle everything....sound system food etc. They actually had food tasting last week. Not very impressive with their firstdish as there were no decorations and overall ....is slightly salty!I am quite confused with the info got fr my bro. He said the place has no sound systemand only 1 projector. Have you got the plasma guys going down to check the installation? My bro is in the event management and he will be doing the setup ....hopefully!Anyway....according to my bro, the manager said we can use the projector and karaoke as we will be having at least 45 tables...it will be very crowded!!! ceetee 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 sinh,Oh, yours is on 6 dec... :) Mandarin has got decent PA sys, and the sound sys just ok for Karaoke... i think for life band, u might need to rent a better set....i havn't got the plasma guys to check, but according to Angie, 1 couple rented the plasma TV before, no problem with it, she said... Maybe when i do final comfirmation with guys, i'll ask them to chk out...I'm having 45 tables too, will just cover the whole hall.... anything above 45, will need to use the room.... which is not a good idea...BTW, i went there to have dinner + surveillance check on last Saturday, few findings for you gals to take note:1. the flower arch is quite old and it clashes with the 'mandarin' theme, better remove it...2. the wedding notice is too simple, just pink paper with wordings... maybe can DIY.3. 1st dish presentation not so professional.... better omit too... claritzel 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Btw, heard they've promotion during this January exhibition;free tables. For brides who wish to have their reception there, think it's worthwhile to wait bit more. Or talk to the sales manager there if they can do something about it. ;)
ceetee 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Claritzel, even now itself they hav free tables.... for every 10 tables confirmed, 1 free table..... :)

And the service given is of hotel standard... (sounds like tongue twister... )you can check out Federal website for the number.... but i advise u go and hav a look b4 committing as it's totally away from western Ballroom concept, it's of very traditional chinese environment.... :)
