Hi All,

Can anyone share your experience and opinion about HUKM (private wing) and Taman Desa Medical Center for check up and delivery.

My sis in-law has delivered in HUKM by Dr Paul last year but now he has moved to Pantai Bangsar. She advised me to deliver in HUKM too as it is nearer to my house as I stay in sg long.

For my first check up in May, I went to HUKM and found out that Prof Tan only available on Wed and her appointment is full till end of June. I was surprised to know that and then I look for Dr Loo at Tmn Desa. Generally, she is ok and she's full time there.

Now, i'm abit worrying and undecided....I'm not sure should I continue to visit Dr Loo or go for HUKM... Heard that hospital facilities and equipment is for more better and hosp able to handle emergency than medical center.

Please share and advise. Thanks!

not sure abt HUKM.. but a fren of mine went to TDMC last yr before her EDD to visit and hv a look of the labour room there.. but she felt that she is not so comfortable abt the environment n the labour room...so at last she decided to go to Sunway MC.. i myself delivered at Pantai Bangsar.

my opinion is u may go to both of the HUKM n TDMC hv a look of the environment and visit the labour room..then only u make decision...

just wonder, if u do monthly check up outside...then in which weeks, u start to look for Dr Premitha for the follow up ?

I'm rhesus negative, so it's advisable for me to stick to one doc throughout the pregnancy process. that's why i have to make up my mind...

Dr Premitha is very nice but her charges is rather high too. FYI she delivered our ex PM's (Pak Lah) grandkids.

Anyhow, due to your health condition, I would really advise you to stay with bigger well-equiped hospitals and perhaps govt hospitals since they have better access to the blood bank.

Hi bunnyNwife,

ya, this is the advantage point for me to select HUKM. but i have a little discomfort feeling when i first go to HUKM which make me think twice. What do u think of pantai bangsar? Many ppl said it's a baby friendly hospital. Of coz, the charges are not cheap also.

By the way, where do u deliver?

Hoisum,

If you think or the dr. advised that your pregnancy is a high risk one, then it would be better to go to government hospital or at least UMMC or HUKM. They are better equipped and even if they don't, they will source for you.

For my case, I am carrying twins. Already a high risk pregnancy by nature. Then, dr. found out that although I am rhesus +, my body develops some antibodies during the pregnancy. Thus, dr. advised that I should not deliver in private hospital as they may not have blood for me. So now I am doing my check up in UMSC and later deliver in UMMC. If you find HUKM is too crowded or not to your liking, perhaps you can try UMMC or UMSC.

If you do go to UMSC, I recommend that you look for A. Prof. Dr. Eugene Leong. He is a highly recommended O&G. I am doing my check up and plan to deliver under him.

UMSC is University Malaya Specialist Centre. It is the private wing of University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). Just like HUKMSC is the private wing of HUKM. And yup, both UMMC and UMSC is in PJ. Just next to University Malaya.

Actually what I am thinking is, if you are already in labour pain, you wouldn't be bothered about the conditions of the labour room. But if you are going for C sect or looking for a nice environment post delivery, then lain cerita.

Hi hoisum,

I was admitted to Pantai Bangsar during 1st trimester. The hospital is very well equiped but pricing wise can be rather "scary". My bill for 4 days in the hospital was RM7+k partially bcos I stayed in a suite. But even I stay in single room, the bill will still be around RM5+k. I was having fever and was on drips for 4 days. No special procedures or test except the 2 rounds of Hb counts! I was treated very well in the Pantai Bangsar as I am a friend to the Group CEO and he personally called up the Pantai Bangsar CEO to arrange my admission. I am not sure whether will I be getting the same treatment if I am just an ordinary patient. It's my 1st and only experience with Pantai Bangsar.

Anyhow, I am going to deliver in SJMC on the coming Wednesday noon!!

As for your case, whether you are going to private/govt hospital, please make sure you inform them upfront so that they will get ready the blood for any emergency requirement. Also if I am not mistaken, the gynae also need to take special precaution during delivery in order to protect your BB.

Hi Fluene,

My sis in-law said the room is private single room, quite nice....

she just commented that if need better service, go to private hosp.

overall, she's fine with HUKM, as her priority is the location which is near to her house too.

I heard that TDMC gave the wrong BB to the wrong mummy. Luckily the mummy recognised the BB even just a few glance after deliver.

Scary man! More the reason daddy is needed in the labour room. To take pics of the bb for recognition.

Yalor.. my mum also worry abt it as I am going for c-sec tmw under GA thus HB is not allowed to be in. Hopefully the midwife will bring the RIGHT BB to show to my HB and mum. HB will definitely snap a few photos since most newborns look about the same during the 1st hour.

my sis in law delivered at TDMC. Cost came up to 10 k for (3 nights stay). She had emergency C-section. I think for the condition of the medical centre TDMC is quite pricey lah.

I know that TDMC is not cheap n lousy service. That's why I choose Sunway Hosp :D

hi simonne,

mind to share how much is your cost at sunway medical? initially i think of deliver at TDMC but doctor advised me to choose sunway as TDMC is not so well equiped and the cost at TDMC wouldn't be cheaper much compare to sunway.
