Diana 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2009 Just last weekend I attended my cousin's wedding dinner in Flower Drum. My GoD!! I won't advice anyone to have their wedding dinner there! Firstly the sound system was bad, no one could hear what the MC said. Secondly, they had to manually move their spotlight to dreate a better effect. Thirdly, When the slideshow was on, no one bothered to dim the lights so everyone didn't pay attention to the slideshow and was just chatting away. Next was the food! Oh God! We parked our car at the back and on the way there we saw them roasting the suckling pig in this small little hut next to the car park! Their sharksfin soup was more like starch fin soup. Some of the tables didn't get their dishes. Waiters were old so they couldn't handle carrying such heavy plates hence pushing and dropping the plates on the table just like that. Worst of all is the toilet is for unisex!! There's 2 cubicle and all men and women had to wait in the same toilet for their turn!!! Really really awful... ceetee 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2009 Diana,I was there beginning of the month too, attended a friend's wedding, agree with u, the PA system was lousy... We were seated at the back and the speakers for front & back are playing different things... MC was talking at the front, loud music was being played at the back... kinda funny initially, but after a while, it was so annoying.... The toilet at the back is even 'better', unisex and a stand-alone unit, just next to a table... luckily we were not sitting there....The food served was sub-standard... Very oily 4-seasons, starchy shark's fin soup, over cooked glutinous rice.... that was the worse TT group i have ever gone to....
Diana 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Ceetee,Hello! How have you been??? Anyway yeah that's the best TT group I've been too as well! My cousin actually had a few songs to play but then they kept repeating the same song again and again for a good 20 mins!!! We were so sick of that 1 song! Sigh.. Very very bad la even the fish that we had, some were overcooked some wasn't fully cooked!!!
aishiteru 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 wah really become that bad ah???during my wedding dinner in year 2007 Dec...everything was perfect to me... the food is excellent..i got many good comments from my guests.till now ppl still praise it
Diana 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 aishiteru,U were so lucky!! Maybe they changed the chef or something. But it was really bad! When I ate the sharksfin I could feel a blob of starch! I stopped eating after that.

beautifulgown 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 A good reputable restaurant can turn to be a lousy one with few reasons.1. Changes of management2. Changes of chef3. Changes of staff/Shortage of waitresses Diana,During the night, it is the only dinner is going on? in kch if one night has 2 - 3 dinner going on, the food quality will definitely drop, that's how we learn but so far we have not encounter such a bad service and facilities provided. And I ever attended a dinner in at restaurant which 3 wedding dinners are at the same time, food quality drop, service was slow due to shortage of waitresses .. sigh .. =.=''' just 1 night can spoil their good image and view from their clients. Diana 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 BG,No ler their wedding was the only one. Very very bad! That's why having wedding dinners at chinese restaurants have its risks. I was dining in Overseas Restaurant at Armada Hotel there and they were having 2 weddings there and 1 of the wedding was just beside my table no walls to separate at all so we got free show If it was my wedding I'd go crazy already coz got no privacy at all! ceetee 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Diana,Hi, I'm doing well..... minus the work stress... :p U? Back in Aussie?TT group standard has dropped a lot compared to last time... their food quality has become very terrible, esp for function. But 1 thing good on them is their packaging.... the deco and restaurant setting is pretty attractive, but when come to service and food, awful! I have been to so many of their outlets for wedding dinner, most of them let me down.... despite the nice environment.... Aishiteru,Hmmm.... the food really sucks.... Big time! Back then, i think it was under different management.....
beautifulgown 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Diana,ha? just the only one dinner .. sigh .. guess they really change the chef ah?I do agree with you but even dined in hotel oso =.='''Luckily for my dinner, I will have the hall and not sharing with anyone else =P the hall only can accommodate 50 and I have about 40 tables =P hehehe who wants to share with me?? come come, most welcome
Diana 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Ceetee,Don't be so stress!! Relax!lol yeah I'm back in Melb now but will be going back to KL again in August so I can have my doses of bird's nest for my baby heheh Yeah I wonder why TT food is getting so bad now. End of this yr my friends are having their wedding dinner at Tropicana and it'll be under TT too! Hope it won't be bad la.BG,At least dine in hotel they will partition it hehe but I still prefer it there la at least they will accomodate and arrange things well. If you are using 80 percent of the hall then they won't mix it with another wedding ler hehe. I think all the chinese restaurants just wanna maximize their things for the night!
beautifulgown 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 Diana,Yaya .. that's right, hotel will partition the hall properly =) and more accommodative to our requests. I just hope the restaurant won't disappoint me =)
ceetee 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 BG,Agree with u, some restaurants will just take as many business as they can without considering their capability.... Flower Drum has got many part-time and young staff, their services were bad even only for 1-host dinner. For your wedding dinner, for sure The Banquet will not cater for another couple, only 10 tables, too little... But do get them to commit on no 'walk-in'.... It really makes your function more private.... :)Diana, You are preggy? congrates!!! I'm still TTC..... stressed!!!Tropicana food is around there too.... I was there in 2007, my friend's wedding... hall was dim as quite quite a lot of the ceiling lights not working... What i remember most was the bad service from their 'bangla' staff.... rushing to serve as the dinner started late, just took away our dish even it was only 1/2 eaten.... :(
beautifulgown 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 ceetee,You are right, i will take note on that and make sure no walk-in customers, heheehhe who wanna walk-in to a people's wedding for dinner ah? ahhh .. maybe ho, after all free entertainment ba! =D haahhaha .. I will talk to my SA again, in fact there are few more things that I need to discuss with her, thanks for reminding this =)
Diana 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2009 BG,Yeah remember like what ceetee said to let thme know u don't want walk-ins. Hope all goes well!Ceetee, yeah already 3 mths preggy Thanks!! You're too stressed that's why cannot get preggy!! Try be relax more hehe set the mood and voila!Huh? Tropicana also so bad ah? Aiyo then I better inform my friend and make sure they remind them about things! But hopefully what happened in 2007 won't happen now again!
kerchea 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2009 hi diana, ceetee and BG,i didn't know that flower drum's food are bad..it was my first choice for my wedding..but my husband were being lazy to visit the dinner venue according to our plans. we were late for few weeks and the place were booked.i was sad and put the blames on him tat time..then we found another TT group which is opposite the KLCC..the restaurant was abit old fashioned.. the manager told us that they will have renovations and it will be brand new for our wedding.. we paid RM3000 deposits and a few months later, i was informed by one of the MB's member that there weren't be any renovation for the restaurant... i got angry bcoz the manager told me that some of my guests will need to sit in the vip room and view the ceremony from the windows..(since there is no reno, the place wasn't big enough to accomodate upto 400pax)..then i quickly search for other restaurants.. at tat time it's only less than half a year for my wedding. most of the restaurants were fully booked.i was so lucky to get parkroyal hotel as my dinner venue. i shall say, the place is great.. food is good(not tat good during food tasting, but they did improve accordingly).. the environment and decorations are superb...my frens and relatives are still giving us credits till now..for the TT opposite to KLCC.. it closed down few months back before my wedding.. they only paid me rm2000 cash back and for the rm1000, i need to dine in as free dinner... thinking back all these incidents, i realised that i am blessed with the arrangements...=)
beautifulgown 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 Diana, yah I will remind them, I don't want walk-in customers =)kerchea, phew .. luckily you managed to find your venue. Foods, service are important to a dinner, especially a wedding dinner, we don't want to disappoint our guests, if service bad I will feel paiseh ah .. ish.By the way, what is TT? =PNow I just hope my SA won't twist her words but I saw her noted down everything on the booking's book, feel safer =P
Diana 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 U know I just realized that I've posted this under the wrong section hehe sorry! Moderators if you happen to come across and you can do something about it do move it k? Thanks!Kerchea,I didn't think TT's standard would drop so badly! You're so lucky that you managed to get Parkroyal Hotel for your wedding venue. That was where I had mine! And yes the compliments are here to stay! Amy and her team did a very good job. I didn't attend the food tasting as I'm based in Melbourne but my family went and of coz like you said it isn't 100% satisfactory in fact a few had stomach ache due to the overflowing of the dry ice onto the food. So after that they did change according to our requests and the food was excellent (considering it's hotel food) and the decos, etc were great. In fact Parkroyal wasn't even the first on my list of hotels to call at the start just that all hotels I wanted were booked!! And luckily I thought ok I should give Parkroyal a try and actually a couple booked my date but they said they're ok to move to another date coz they had 2 dates. Phew!Luckily one of the MB members told u that TT you went to wasn't under any renovation if not you'd be in deep trouble if you waited and waited. How can they sit your guests at another room and make them watch throug the window?!?!?!? That's so ridiculous!BG,TT = Tai Thong restaurant

Diana 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 melanieee,Have u gone for your food tasting?? If u have and the food is not like what I mentioned maybe u can tell them that u've heard from friends that their sharks fin isstarchy and make sure they check on that. For the sound system maybe you might wanna invest in renting one for your wedding? The lighting remind them now and again to dim it when the slideshow is playing. I guess it's only these things you can do. Oh ya and if you ever have any whisky or brandy PLS PLS ask them NOT to pour it out in a jug and add ice to it!! If anyone wants then ask them to pour into individual glasses for your guests.
