Hi, mums to be,

Just want to share my exprience and warned all mum to be out there who want to have a choice of giving natural birth to their babies, nowadays we heard so much that the docs just want to save time and operate all their patients and play god to decide who born first for their own convinience. So be I guess if we have a list of recommended good gynea and obstetn we shaould also be warn of the money craving doc who are out to make maney and not the best interests to patient at heart.

Here goes what happened to me..

I gave birth to my baby on Oct 14 ( ya, u are right hoax into a c-sect by my doc) and I had since the begining of my pregnancy went for a private and a public clinicto do my routine check up as I am already 34 and this is my first baby just to be extra careful. I have since the begining express my intend to have a natural birth to my doc (especially the Private one, as the public kesihatan clinic only nurses make the routine checks). He seem to be all kind, nice and supportive and assure I have a good and normal pregnancy and natural birth is not a problem till the end.

On the 13 Oct I had through the nite show of blood( quite ittle but the contraction is getting stronger), I suspect this was caused by the doc checking me on the nite of 13th inserting his hand in my privates-- so admitted my self to SJMC under my private Gynea, Dr. Mak Foo Sing,( I stayed in Kelana Jaya, so SJMC seems to be a good and nearer choice) he has an private practice in Kuchai Entreprenuer Park, I was admitted at approc 9am++ ( with a dialation of approx 3 cm) and till 7pm (Dilation of 9cm ++) I was still in labour with epidural, the doc came to hospital at 4.30pm only my water bag still intacted and he pocked it to broke (without my consent) it at abt 6pm+ and then he performed a episiotomy on me i saw him make a cut at my privatehe checked and told me the baby head then he suggest by 7pm if still the baby head is high that I should went for c-sect, came 7pm he check and told me the baby head still high and kept pushing me to sign for c-sect.

I demand for more time and he waited till 7.30pm and started making remarks like baby under distress, head still high, heart beat dropping and he scare see my hairy private and even put a blanket over me. Suddenly the evil side of him all came out so totally unprofessional and making inedequate remarks and make me and my hubby (first time parent panic) at 7.45 I finally gave in as I was unble to think straight as he kept saying that if the baby heart beats dropped further then only I agreed to oprerate then it will endanger the baby. As for the episoitomy I did not knoe if he stiched me up down there or not???!! (I have called the hospital to checked, and wating for their reply)

I was push out of the opt theater by 9pm and immediately felt so helpless and sad of agreeing the opt and thinking back I could have in my right mind may demand for another doc for opinion or even replaced of this stupid doc. As I repeat my exprience with my grandma, my mum, aunties, cousins they all told me I could have had my baby naturally I given more time and with my waterbag in tacked my baby will not be in danger just need monitoring.

So I ended up hoaxed into be cut up, paying extras and feeling depress for such unprofessional and unethical practice by this doc, so be warned. To add to that my hubby saw in the ward nursing counter all patients under this same doc who are admitted on the same day were operated (name of patient with a 'c' marked behind names, including mine) including me all 3 of us so he is making the call and hoax patient to opts to save time and make money.

I have been crying as I now felt to have cope with the extras for the bills and knowing this blodding doc unethical calls that caused me to decide for operation and massed up my state of mind and mess up my entire post natal plan made during pregnancy just be caued of his greed and unethical opinions.

I practically cursed him everyday now.

So good luck to all mums to be, my advise know your right and kick the fxxking doc out if they mistreated you and demand for 2nd opinion no matter what.

Cindy, I sympathized with you. Hope you and baby are healthy. I went to see the same doc too but only a few times. I was bleeding at the beginning of my pregnancy and was panicking. Called the doc to get advise and the nurse give me lots of excuses and was reluctant to pass the call to the doc. I didn't know if this was the doc instruction to avoid picking up patients calls or the nurse was being a bitch. But when a patients called in an emergency case the doc should entertain. I didn't mind holding if there were patient but the nurse just went on and on to give me advise. I don't think the nurses at the clinic (kuchai) are trained at all. They are not qualify to give any advise at all. It was my first pregnancy and I cannot take the risk. I went to another doc and this doc did pick up my calls whenever I called to get advise. I had a natural delivery.

... Dr. Mak Foo Sing ...

hah! and why am i not surprised. been hearing so much stories abt him coz the same thing happened to my other half's cousin-SIL. till today, my other half's aunt still curse him and the baby girl oredi turned 2.

a/way, he was oso my gynae for the initial check-up (that was b4 i heard abt his preference for c-sect despite the mother's ability/preference for natural birth, in this case, the cousin-SIL, whom the midwife said that she has dilated enuf to be able to deliver naturally). back then, during my 2nd visit, my gut feeling told me he wasnt that professional but i was so sick/nauseous/all-the-works then, i didnt have the energy to go for consultation and wait in line for 3-4hrs wif the otr better ob/gyns namely dr tang boon nee, which was highly recommended by all my frens.

yes, i oso experience "unethical" and very-unnecessary remarks made by him. and his reception staff, the pretty lady, some days, can be quite a bitch oso.

this is my purely my own experience. different ppl has different standards and sad to say, he gives ob/gyn a bad name.

cheers.

Dear Cindy,

Very sorry to hear about ur predicament. *Hugs*

My mom got conned also into having a c-sect when she was pregnant with me 30 years ago, and it was then with this doctor, Dr. Kelvin Loh of Loh Guan Lye Specialists Center, who was then probably the most 'famous' ob/gyn in Penang. He had patients from as far as East Msia as well.

Anyhow, my mom was also 34 y.o. that time and he told straight that she's too old liao and had no strength to push out baby and the pelvic bone cannot expand to accomodate natural birth. Which to me, is total bullshit because I know of a few colleagues who gave birth to their first child in their mid to late 30s and did not have any problem going through natural birth. Their doctors also never mentioned that being in ur 30s is a hindrance to having natural birth due to a 'fused pelvic bone' or 'not having enough strength'.

Anyway, during weekly routine check up @ 37 weeks, he told my mom no need go home liao, can straight away go to c-sect. My mom, being the Chinawoman that she is, thought that doctor knew best and since he was a 'famous' doctor, he was always right. Ended up, c-sect + hospital stay for close to 2 weeks, the bill was huge ( close to RM8K and that was 30 years ago ).

Till today, she still believes that @sshole Dr Loh was right. I get really pissed off when she kept telling me how clever the doctor is, how she had total confidence in the doctor even during operation, there was 0% risk. ( C-sect is always higher risk than natural birth to the mother, regardless of the skill of the doctor. )

I guess I know better now. The only way to protect ourselves is through knowledge ( read up a lot, ask around friends, visit forums for opinions sharing ) from unethical / money driven doctors. I visited Loh Guan Lye Specialist Center when I first conceived and had a shitty experience with the doctor & service there. I've since changed to another hospital and went through 3 doctors before I found a doctor I'm confident is ethical as well as skillful.

All I can say is, dun be afraid to get a 2nd opinion or even, change doctors if you're not confident with the doctor u're currently with.

Somehow i agree with marlene, some gynae said something which worries you but didnt intend to give u any solution abt it, only ask u to monitor ur condition and see how things goes during the next visit.. Well, at least, if you know the baby is in a risky situation, why not have details checking on it? Getting another 2nd opinion should be compulsory.

Hi,

Thanks for all the sympathetic comments and to some who escape you are lucky, i have made search abt this doc online but did not get any negetive comments on him but there are some abt his brother though so i thought is fine but then :dash2:

To add to my predicament and stress the wound he stiched up after the c-sect still hv not heal and today is day 15 after the opt, my wound was bleeding a day after this doc cut the thread heads on day 8 and wnet back to hospital to see him got charged again and he patch me up with another plaster no stiching then on day 12(25 oct) my wound bleed again and went back to hospital again this time a sunday unable to contact the doc i called the hosp and were ask to go to Emergency room and the doc there will contact my doc, how stupid is this...he called me ecentually and then i went back to hosp and some nurse patch me up again with another plaster so..there i am still with a big plaster on my belly after 2 weeks .. :sauer2: I am not having herbals soups or anything and i stay at condo ( no staircase) and the heaviest thing i pick up wud be my 3kg+ baby so u be the judge how good is he..

I am really very stress out and frustrated and my hubby is so upset and he keep telling me to relex and not to get too stress out if not later develop post natal depression...Anyone can advise me how to be not stress out mentally and physically still in pain and haunted by this exprience??!! :dash2:

cindy,

So sorry to hear about ur bad experience. Hugs to you, dun be so stress up ya. Me too was hoping for a normal delivery but ended with an elec c sec due to a few reasons. I think i had mild post natal depression too in the beginning thinking tat i m not a normal woman coz i cant give birth naturally but after a while u will be alrite. Focus more on your newborn, as long as ur baby is healthy, it doesnt really matters by which way he/she was delivered (thats how i tried to make myself feel better) Yeah u r rite about Dr. Tang, she is indeed a very good gynea. She advised me to try normal delivery but we didn't want to take the risk. My wound heal real fast i would say and the pain was really very minimal.

Cindy,

Maybe your doctor is not good enough but since you are on epidural, I think it sort of affected it as well. My wife just delivered yesterday and she start with natural but have to end with c-sect. Well, first of all, not all baby lower their head enough even when the cervix dialate 10cm as my wife did. What makes it worse is the epidural. Actually our doctor did say 'Really cannot tahan meh' but I just let my wife make the call as she's going wild even though its just 5-6cm dialate. Two hours after she got epidural, she already at 10cm but dont feel any sensation to push lor. So doctor said wait 1hr and then we start to try pushing before she still does not feel anything. We even agreed to take off epidural to give back her sense to that she can push when she felt pain. My wife tried hard for 1.5hrs but still the head cant pass cervix. Doc even used forcep but cannot come out. No choice but to c-sect.

Honestly speaking, Im not sure myself as to whether we(men) should convince women not to use epidural. I read about the bad effect of it but I still think its their call because the pain is not something we can imagine. Secondly, I think if really have to c-sect, then just be it lor. For me, I just pray their both safe, and definately not about the money. I saw my wife's face pale as she was pushing and pushing to no avail. Our baby position is considered high. Just remember la, the money you spent on emer c-sect is nothing compared to the cost of raising a baby. However, I do agreed with you if your doc gives you unnecessary pain like the one you went through, then you should dump him la.

I am sorry to hear that you wife has gone for c-sect in state of natural birth as she wanted, for the outcome of safety for wife and baby is the main concern, money is not really a big issue, my hubby never make a big fuss abt it either, but is a matter of choice, whether is a choice made willingly or being hoax into one.

And u are rite some people very sensitive to epidural ie. epidural too effective on them thus no pain and no pushing urge but this is totally not my case, i have my left pelvic still in pain after 3 hours putting on epidural and the nurses hv to add soother anaestatic to make the pain go away and when i under went c-set they hve me fully anestised as the epidural is not working well on me. I totally hv no problem pushing as a senior nurse who check me also confirmed that my pelvic is working fine (still opening) and my pushes works (as the baby head is lowering as she place her hand in me and she can fill it) till the evil doc opened his big month and scare me and my hubby in to panicking..

And to add to that, the un heal wound that is in the mid section of the c-sect after 15 days (on day 8th the wound is abt 12mm (i lay slanting on the ward bed and blood ozzing out.. on day 12th i am not sure as i did not get to see it as my belly is still big laying flat)...ah what luck i hv to end up like this and force into a c-sect. I totally hate my self and should hv trusted the nurse who is awomen rather than that doc. See sometime the professional are really not trustable and reliable and abusing our layman trusts. Alas yes maybe some of the members and friends of min are right that atleast my baby is safe that i am grateful ..i don't credit the doc for this though..

Yup, u are rite i should seek other doc opinion from now on especially my unheal wound.

Cindy,

i think you have to cool down and relax a bit. Understand your frustration with the doctor. However, it is nothing wrong to have c-sect for delivery, it is common that mother who opt for natural birth end with having emergency c-sec due to unforseen reasons.

Since it alr happened, it is really no point you continue to blame for things or even hate yourself. Please be mindful of postnantal depression. What you have to do is put more focus, care and love to your baby.

PuiPui79,

Thanks for you kind advise, the fact i hv to accept what has already happened that i got operated with unprofessional advise, for me sharing what i gone through here is for some mums ane way my cousin has a friend working as a staff nurse in SJMC's meternity ward and from this reliable source Dr. Mak is confirmed to be a opt prone doc, statistically 99.9% of all his patients end up being cut open...if there is a natural born under his care that day will be the hot topic of the day in the labour room and ward...

I do hope people like me do stand out to share their ordeals so that others do not fall prey to there axxhoxx. B'cos i did run a check with this doc's name when i first engaged him but there seem to hv no negetive comments abt him. But now i knew some members has been or narrowly escape the same ordeal as I, so i hope more people will post their experience and make a list of such docs for others to take precautions.

TQ

Cindy

Hi Cindy ,

Do you know which doctor in SDMC that supports natural birth ?

I am now 18th weeks pregnant and always wanted to have natural birth.

I am now seeing Dr. Vigneswaran. There is not much comments about this doctor.

Hi all,

Would like to share with all mothers-to-be another ploy used by gynaes to get you to do c-sec instead of natural birth. This happened to my colleague. She had always wanted a natural birth but her gynae scared her into having a c-sec by telling her that her baby is around 3.7kg and being her 1st baby, she will have a difficult labor. My friend was so scared and without 2nd opinion listened to the gynae and went for elective c-sec. Her baby was born at 3.4kg and she so regretted listening to her gynae cos the pain of her c-sec was so intense she had difficulty breastfeeding her baby. She found out later that the gynae prefer to do c-sec cos No. 1 - she can plan her time and dun have to be called to the hospital middle of night to deliver ur baby. No.2 - She earn more $$$. No.3 - Easy (heard she can finish her c-sec within minutes, cut and stitch back). Most of her patients also underwent c-sec.

aiyo why doctors nowadays look at money more than look at patient's needs/ benefits. luckily my doctor very firm and insisted for me to go for natural delivery... i wanted c-sec at 1st coz afraid of labor pain

a few frens of mine were surprised when i went for natural delivery. apparently they have been told dat c-sec is the safest and easiest way to give birth (natural might have complications). in fact, my CL told me this same comment from her singaporeans clients... 9 out of 10 singaporeans will go for c-sec

there is a certain thinking among some people that makes them prefer C-sec than natural.

A fren in SG (she is from China) said her mother advised her to go for C-sec cos the natural birth pain will be too intense and she is afraid she cant take it. Mind you, she is the only daugther. How about those mothers who have 4-6 kids? They still live.

My fren was also quick to add that with C-sec she can preserve her vagina for future sex life.. ok at that time i might hv been naive enuf to believe, but now i know.. even after natural delivery, my opening in fact became more tight than before, how and why, i hv no idea

hi all...

I'm in my 23 weeks now and just returned back to msia. Based on my friends and relatives' recommendation, i have shortlisted both Dr Tang Boon Nee and Dr Jason Lim from SDMC and Sunway respectively.

Just wondering if they are pro c-section too? I'm really keen to go on natural if possible. Also, i have heard of Dr. Jason being impatient and not very thorough in his examinations....wonder if any of you here has such encounters and could share some info on these two docs.

Many thanks.

hi cindy,

after reading your post only i know not necessary can deliver naturally even though dilated 9cm++.. i really thought once reached 7cm++, then we have reached the "safe" zone liao.. coz the doctor can cut the vagina to take out the baby (this was told by my colleague, i was doubtful of her words, she said her cervix dilated 5cm++ only, but still can natural and the doc had to cut 5-6cm more in her vagina).. for my case, i delivered in pantai cheras under dr. edmund lai.. he too, i heard many stories about him, about last minute c-sect la, etc.. but i had no choice as pantai is the nearest to my place, and i chose him coz many people are seeing him as well.. so is your bill natural+c sect amount?

andre, i too insisted and kept telling myself i will tahan til the end and fight my life without any painkillers.. but halfway thru, i gave up and decided to take the Pathedine jab (at the bum, only cost rm30, so i thought y not, can try).. it was supposed to make me drowsy and sleepy, thus sleep thru and wont feel so much pain.. but it didnt work on me.. after injected with this painkiller, yes, i felt drowsy and sleepy, but it didnt take the pain away.. the nurse increased the drip, baby heartbeat drop, so the nurse had to decrease the drip, which means, take longer time to dilate.. anyway, once reached 9cm++ like cindy, i thought kautim and safe liao, but it didnt end there.. the nurse actually put her whole hand inside my vagina, and "adjusted" something, i was too pain to ask what the heck she was doing.. i blur-blur heard her say something like, "there, i have adjusted the head to make it down already, now, it is already 10cm, baby will come out anytime".. after she said this, then only she called my gynae to come into the labour room..

so maybe i have to thank the nurse for doing what she did? (put her hand inside and "adjusted/position something" to make the head lower down - as she claimed) ?

One book that I particularly like is: Birth Without Violence by Frederick Leboyer. It describes the ideal scenario how a baby should be welcomed into the world.

ok nowadays there's alot of ways to giv birth to a child, even in malaysia. though not popular but i c water birth n home birth is getting more popular here. i too know alot of mummies claim that giving birth naturally without pain at all =.= seriously i'm envy as i hv a extremely low tolerance wif pain, thanks anyway to share the gynae tat u think hv put u into hell when u giv birth is great to know so we can avoid, dr menon at tropicana medical centre n assunta hospital is quite good ( in a way he juz advise u n leave u to make the decision) he wont scare u wif his advise but i strongly suggest u be more informative so u can make the right decision yourself as he is a gynae n he care very much about the pregnant lady feelings more n baby come 2nd
