There's one gynae in Sunway (not convenient to put the name here. Anyone interested can pm me). Went to see him for some problems I had last year. He charges very high and asked for many tests, etc. End up my problems not solved and more other problems surfacing. Then I went to see another 2 different gyanes. They were horrified when I told them what this Sunway dr. gave me. And they also queried why he asked for so many expensive and yet unnecessary tests. I feel like conned by this dr. Spent a few thousands ringgit and end up my health got worse instead of getting better.

Hi fluene,

I would like to know which gynae is this. How can I pm you? Is there any good gynae that you can recommend to me?

For those who wanted to know whtr Prof Eugene of UH (UMSC) is good. I'm 6th month first pregnancy & am seeing him. He did an op to remove my cyst, fibroids & endometriosis in 2006. He's really good, very committed to his patient's well being. I'm staying in Shah Alam but still stick with UMSC bcoz of him although I don't like the environment there. Yes, I have his hp number (I think it's his working hp) & have called him before & he always answer unless he's doing surgery. I don't think he's money minded like some gynaes coz when I told him i wanted caesarian, he sound very discouraging & keep asking me to think about it. He also has many patients but I don't think I waited that long (max 1 hr but usually 30 - 40 mins) compared to another private hospital gynae which made me wait up to 2 - 3 hrs. About the charges, shd be similar to private hospital coz UMSC is under the private wing but certain things could be more expensive for example they have admin fee which i think other hospitals don't have or at least I don't remember paying for this.

Thanks Amanda! Anyway, I dun feel like engaging him as my gynae cos my fren had a very terrible experience with him. Recently, I went to see Dr Wong Choon Meng at Yan's Women Specialist. He is very friendly and patient. I did pap smear & Vaginal scanning and it cost RM185.00.

So interesting reading all these postings on motherhood and mother to be. Since i'm a mother to three kids (16,13,6), i think i qualify to give a little bit of advice for all mothers to be..he..he...

Advice no 1- if the doctor/gynae is too popular, they will probably be too busy to give you the extra care you might need. A colleague of mine had such bad experience with a very popular gynae (no names will be given since the gynae aredi retired). Since the waiting room was always filled to the rim, he spent very little time with each patient. The last scan was done on the 7th mth and when my frd delivered the babe was so big (11lb), it was unexpected. She underwent emergency c-sec but due to the size of the babe, she suffered internal hemorrhaging during the op. She nearly died giving birth becos she thought the most popular doc is the best.

Advice no 2- if possible go for gynae who encourage you to go for natural delivery verses c-sec. Usually these gynae care for the mothers wellbeing bcos post delivery care for natural delivery is shorter and there are less complications for subsequent childbearing. Gynae who encourage you to go for c-sec usually do so for their own convenience. They will have an "easier" schedule becos they do not have to wake up at odd hours to deliver the babies. They can see more patients and deliver more babies when they have a schedule, just like an assembly line in a factory. They also earn more when performing c-sec. Good gynae only advice you to perform c-sec when it is necessary and not for cosmetic reasons.

Advice no 3- if during your first few consultation with yr gynae, you feel very uncomfortable or uneasy, then maybe you should change gynae. A good gynae will put you at ease and gives you the confidence that you can do it. Its just like a transfer of good vibes that passes on from him/her to you and this is especially crucial during the delivery room. You must have absolute confidence that both of you, mother and babe will make thru this wonderful journey with bittersweet memories, not nightmares.

Well hope what i share here will help the expecting mom in choosing the right gynae. I shared my own gynae experience in the posting "health section". Take a look there.

UMSC is UM Specialist Centre. It is the private branch of UM Medical Centre of better known to be University Hospital. It is just beside University Malaya main campus in PJ, you can see it from Federal Highway. UMSC operates only at night and Sat. The doctors there are actually the same dr as in UM MEdical Centre. UMSC gives the dr the chance for private practise, hence it operates only after office hours.

Dr. Eugene serves both UM Medical Centre (UMMC) and UMSC. UMMC is much cheaper than UMSC but the drawback is that you have to make appointment/referral from other dr to go to UMMC. UMSC, you can just walk in. I have seen Dr Eugene in UMSC before. He is not a money minded dr. If you need to go for a surgery or anything that might cost you a lot, Dr. Eugene will transfer you to UMMC so that you don't have to pay that much. I think this is the way dr should be. Care more for their patients than their own pockets

HI,

is there anybody see Dr Fam FROM Tmn Desa Medical Center is he good & price reasonable?

Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to this forum. The info circulating round here is very informative. I'm also searching for a good gynae. My experience with the last two female ones weren't satisfactory. Between the ones recommended from TDMC, which would be recommended as a good listener? And not just someone who rushes through stuff :(

I think you should do blood test, especially to find out if you're immuned to Rubella, Chicken pox and Hepatitis B. It's dangerous for pregnant mom to get any of these, so better check out first. Oh, and if you just recently take the shots, do not get pregnant in 3 months time.

Yes you should take folic acid, but as for Iron, sorry no idea. :P

By the way, good luck trying.
