:( Can someone / any experience mums advise me whether is Columbia Asia Specialist Centre (CASC) in Bandar Puteri, Puchong a reliable hospital ? I'm currently engaged with Sunway Medical Centre, but was thinking of other alternative to save the pocket on some unforeseen crashing bills of C-section as this is my first pregnancy.

I want a hospital to offer Natural Birth without any drugs and promoting Breastfeeding.

Fees at CASC is cheap - at only RM2,100.00 for normal delivery. But their gynaes only two of them being trained locally in UM. I fear for the safety of my baby after reading thru the articles of those doctors treating the babies.

Has anyone gave birth to their babies in this Columbia Asia Hospital before? Any good or bad experience advise would be greatly appreciated. Please help....

Hi Everybody :)

I'm new to this forum and its a great place for imformation.

I think i'm preggy so now i'm looking for an ob-gyn. however, i'm very confused with the whole process of choosing the right doc. i live in cheras so i'll prefer some ob-gyn who is attached at a nearby hospital. does anyone have any advice on who I can go to? I see alot of comments about HUKM, UMSC and Pantai Bangsar. I think i'll probably be going there. Do you choose the doctor based on where he's attached or the hospital where you will deliver? Do you go to clinic or hospital to check up? Pls help....

thanks

Hi evalz!

Welcome to MB! Enjoy the board ya.

Anyway I think the most important criteria in looking or choosing the right doc is whether you are comfortable being with the gynae or not. The best gynae in the world wont be the best for you if you are not comfortable. Try to ask your friends/colleagues/relatives for recommendation and pay those gynaes a visit, talk to them and see how things goes.

I choose the nearest hospital to my house, DSH and then from there I asked for recommendations of the docs at the hospital.

Hi Mummyally,

thanks for the advice. its my first time and i'm really getting panicky. wasnt sure whether to go clinic or hospital. I got the impression that going to the hospital is a longer wait and will cost more. is it true? maybe i think i'll shop around by going to a few ob-gyn before deciding. hehehehe...waste a bit money but wat todo? very confusing.... choosing the right doc!

Hi sywiser,

At 11 weeks you normally just do a neck test and that is cheap, around RM30 I think. Triple test is only done around week 15 onwards for down syndrome screening. Anyway, paying over RM800 is too much.

Hi all.. just my personal opinion.. I'll choose Dr. Jason Lim anytime.. but be prepared to a long wait for clinic appts as he's got lots of patients, & Sunway Med Ctr charges a little bit on the expensive side. Most of the nurses are also quite experienced - their customer service might not be the best in the world but they're good. The new maternity ward which was just opened is also quite nice. Sometimes Dr. Jason might not be in the best mood esp when he has a lot of patients but from my experience, he does give good explanation & sound judgement.. well.. the most important thing is, you should be comfortable with your doctor.

The new hospital in KL, Prince Court MC is also ok. I'm not going to comment much about the standard of nursing care.. but if you're looking for a nice & comfortable labour room, Prince Court MC is the place. I think they have the best looking labour room, equipments & items - I'd say 80% modern, state-of-the-art, customer service superb, very, very friendly nurses - in fact, almost all their staff are very friendly.. the place is like a hotel, inside & outside. Oops.. I hope I don't sound like I'm promoting them coz I'm not.. Given choice, I'll still go to Sunway Med Ctr.. Y? I got my own reason but I don't think it's appropriate for me to write it here.. :P :D

Hi all,

I was with the late Dr Jeremy and am 5 months pregnant now. Now I am in dillema too looking for a doctor as good and caring as him. Any recommendation around PJ or Bangsar area?

Dr Kim Wong is very pricey and not gentle and caring enough.

Yes i totally agree with you. I went for pap smear with Dr Kim Wong at Pantai Medical. She was really rough and very impatient. To all my questions, she gave mainly one word answer and she tried to get rid of me as soon as she can. I waited for more than 1 hour to see and i saw her for about 5 minutes.

Hi all,

I am in the midst of looking for gynae.. and went through the forum to look for recommendations..

And my habit is, once i see a doctor which a few MB brides recommend and I am interested, then i will google on the doctor to see if i can see any comments on that doctor from other sites. Haha.. better to double confirm mar.. dont play play or cin-cai on pregnancy stuff :)

One of the doctor i googled is Dr Roopi. This doctor was recommended by a few brides. When i google this name, i found this disturbing site posted in year 2007:

http://hygen.net/blog/?p=106

http://hygen.net/blog/?p=99

I am not sure if its the same Dr Roopi that was recommended by the brides here... it could be a different doctor with same name. There is also a Dr. Khoo mentioned in the second link, but I am not sure who is that... But just be careful lor hor...

Hi j2cy,

The Dr Roopi is the one mentioned in MB. I dunno they having such service. I went there for papsmear last year. The nurse told me Dr Roopi is the famous doctor so i have to wait for long queue. She suggested i look for another female doctor in there. Since i don't want to wait so i agree. This is the second time i doing papsmear but it really a nightmare for me. I swear i won't go there anymore. The doctor is soooo rude...is paint like hell...

Heard ppl said the charges for deliver baby is quite cheap that's y a lot of pregnant lady choose them.

Dear happi,

That Dr. Roopi must be very rough for you to hurt like hell. I did my papsmear in July recently and there was no pain at all. Even if this doctor is really very very cheap, I wont choose him as my gynae if I were you.

Hi all,

Is Dr Loo Suat Chin (Taman Desa Medical Center)

Dr. Tang Boon Nee from Taman Desa Medical Center (TDMC) price reasonable?

Thanks!

I've been seeing Dr Loo for infertility issue and i'm very dissapointed as she didn't see my problem as "ovarian cyst" and keep giving me clomid which is bad for me.

Until i visit Damansara Fertility Centre (Dr Collin Lee) who pointed that I 'm having Ovarian cyst and need to do lapo.

HI,

is there anybody see Dr Fam FROM Tmn Desa Medical Center is he good & price reasonable?

Thanks!

MIL say male gynea are more experience and i think i have to agree, after seeing Dr Collin Lee and Dr Fan

Even though Dr Fan graduated locally , Dr Loo (UK) .

I went for a check up with Dr Fan yesterday. He is very detailed ( in fact very loh soh) i ask him so many question (1st visit ma) but he explains each one in detailed. He is also based at Sunway (Mon, Wed, Fri)

Also, my 1st visit with Dr Loo end up RM200++, Dr Fan RM139!

After reading post from sywiser I think i better not visit the Damansara Fertiliy Centre. Even i had my lapo done there. RM800 is really $$$$ :o

Seems like Dr Wong Sum Keong (Pantai Bangsar) is very popular here.

The problem is .. need to wait for long queue even on weekdays?

Actually my concern is (after labour) stay in the hosp in a nice room. I wonder is Sunway or Pantai Bangsar better?

hi, anyone know the charges for UMSC?

i am visiting Prof PC Tan of UMSC for this pregnancy. The consultation fee is averagely rm50-60. normal ultra-scan = rm20. special ultra-scan with more advanced machine = rm60. UMSC will charge every visit rm5 as admin charge.

by short, UMSC charges are of the high side of private hospital.

I went to Prof Dr Eugene Leong yday at UMSC... very nice... he is very gentle... frenly... and he made me relax and calm down... yday was my first time ever doing pap smear, vaginal scan and stuff like tat... and he is really nice!!! Hubby also comfortable with him and me of cos very comfortable with him... and he is a very considerate doctor... he worries about u not being able to pay and tell u the cost beforehand... and whenever u need to dress up, he will turn away and give u some personal time... his nurse also very nice!!!!! I have no doubt taking him as my gynae when I have baby in the future... really recommended!

Will be seeing him next week to see the result of my pap smear and blood tests...

babysiew, how much are the charges? is it expensive? I wan to do some tests too and looking for a good gynae. Do you have his clinic number for me to call and ask for an appointment?
