Columbia Asia Medical Centre in Bandar Puteri, Puchong

Recommended Posts

Mickey,

Your information really helps. This is also one of my concern that whether the nurse there will latch my bb to me after the delivery on that day itself. Because i heard of my friend saying that, if breast feed few hours after the delivery having the best quality. Why some of the mothers got no milk supply is because they only breast feed after 1 week delivery.

There are getting more and more compliments for Dr. Ng. I wonder whether he will notice what we write here or not. haha.. No doubt he is very kind and friendly. Firstly, just share my experience with Columbia Asia. I fell down from the glass table when i was doing house cleaning for CNY in Jan 2008 (Ya, silly me, dont want to go any further detail). Hubby sent me to Columbia Asia immediately. My first toe was cut very deep and bleed quite a lot. I had 5 stitches on my toe by a malay Dr. then rest at home about 2 weeks. When i went there again to remove my stitch, i took their brochure and read through the woman screening program. Initially I've already plan to do the screening. I admit in Malaysia, there are not many people aware of the importance to have the pre-married checkup. Same as me. We've been married for several years, i wanted to do the screening because we are planning to start bb production. Hence I do my paps mear and ultrasound there in my third visit after my toe have fully recovered. My third visit was very sad, as I found out i have cyst in my womb. There is only one Malay lady Dr. available that time, she told me I could not ever pregnant again! She said i have many cyst and the longest is 7cm long, most probably my tube was blocked! Now when i think back, i think she just want to give me the worst scenario. But that sentence was too mean to me, my tears immediately rolled down. She asked is my hubby come with me, I said yes. She asked me to call my hubby in. My hubby was so shocked to see my crying face.

At last i did my cyst operation in Damansara Fertility Centre, D'sara Uptown under Dr. Menon. That time, i never think to have operation in Columbia Asia as i just felt the hospital is too new and not much comments i ever heard from there. Due to my cyst and the comments from the lady Dr. i thought i could have infertility problem. Hence i opt for DFC. Dr. Menon did my operation in Assunta Hospital, as their centre did not have full equipment that time. (Now have expanded to Tropicana Medical Centre) Each time when i see Dr. Menon i have to wait for 1-2 hours!! It is crazy! The most famous Dr. there is Dr. Colin. I see all patients are willing to wait for any Dr. there! Overall Dr. Menon is good, he gives me confidence and he has calmed me before i was being sent to the surgery room. After the surgery the nurse told me she will send my cyst for research purpose and will let me know the result later. I did not hear any news on that till now! Now when Dr. Ng asked me about the cyst result i said..err... i dont have the result with me. I still go back few times to DFC for check up. Dr. Menon keep on asking me to do IVF because my left fallopian tube was blocked and the cyst will come back very soon. He mentioned he will try to fix my tube during the surgery and most probably it can be fixed. But end up he said he is not able to do that?? I wonder is that real? I was so sad when i was lying down and hear this news from him. I thought i can fix my fertility problem since they have high reputation in fixing fertility problem. He said the chances of me to get pregnant is very low. I did a lot of research and reading from internet. Fyi, I'm still very young. I have very regular menstrual, my eggs are fertile (have do the checking). Why do i need to do IVF straight away without even trying?! DFC gave me an impression they just want to earn money by doing IVF i know that is their core business, but they should at least care the patients and suggest what is the best solutions for us. After that, i checked with few other gynaes, most of them agreed with me that i should not go for ivf that fast, i should try for at least a year. They said even a normal woman have to try at least 6 mths to 1 yr in oder to get pregnant.

Hence the trying journey begins. I wonder how many times i've cried in middle of night. Sometimes hubby found out, he said he does not care whether i can have bb or not he married me because he loves me. He never ask me to have bb even before this, he just follow my opinion whenever i feel like want to settle down. I've went through a hard time throughout my TTC journey. At last I made it! I wanted to do my monthly checkup in Columbia, because it is near to my house and my morning sickness was very strong in my 1st trimester. After read through some good comments in this forum, i decided to see Dr. Ng. Yes, it just like everyone said, he is very kind. Besides that, i can feel he is sincerely care on each of the pregnancy. He looks more happy than me when he able to listen to bb's heart beat. :) I need a caring Dr. who can answer all my doubt and calm me down. No doubt he is the one! I found out i have another cyst grow 5cm long located outisde of my womb. I was very worried at the beginning, but Dr. Ng said it is ok as the bb is the first priority in my body now. As long as now i could pregnant and the bb is healthy, the cyst might dissolve itself. Worst case if the cyst still there, it will not harm the bb. He doesn't advise me to do laparoscopy operation now but could do at the same time after the bb delivered.

I have the doubt to have my labour there because some of my friends told me their nurse is not enough, too new etc. I asked him if he tie to other hospital so that i can have him as my gynae but use equipment and nurse in other hospitals. He said Columbia does not allow their Dr. to do so. He calmed me by saying the nurse is not that important as they just help out during the labour. Most importantly is the Dr. is having good skill cause all decision will be made by the Dr. Hubby likes this Dr. as well he is opt to this Dr. After reading all the comments here, i guess i will have my labour there. I think we should have trust and confidence on the Dr. we chose, else it's very hard for us to cope with the dr. during the labour. I went for my first visit on 31/12/08 with Dr. Ng. Till now i have visited him 3 times. I chose to visit him on Sat so i do not need to take so many mc. The first visit was very smooth and on time. For 2nd and 3rd i've waited about half hour. Both times is because he was doing surgery. The reason is acceptable, it still consider fast if compare to other hospital. I don't mind to wait as the nurse and dr. are very polite and apologize for each prolong. My last visit was quite long, i think more than 15 min, because Dr. Ng was trying hard to check my bb's gender. :)

I think for my next bb i will not go to see gynae immediately. Cause i find there is nothing much dr.can tell you in 1st and 2nd month. But for first bb of course need to see gynae immediately, then only u will know how is the bb growth like at the beginning stage. Once you get the knowledge it is ok to prolong the first visit for next pregnancy. This is just my opinion. For my first bb, i could not tell anyone i pregnant, even Dr. Ng ask me to keep for myself first till i can listen to the bb's heart beat. As he explained, it is not stable in 1st trimester and anything misfortune could be happened with or without any reason. Since i could not tell anyone, i did not have any knowledge on how to cope with my first pregnancy. Dr. Ng he calmed me by answering my million and one questions and tell me what kind of essential nutrients i must consume.

better go and see doctor once u know u r pregnant to confirm things and also to know how many weeks alredi ur bb... Dr Ng is nice... just go and see him and u will be able to know whether u like him/his style during the first visit... congrats to u ya... hugs...

There are many due date calendar where you can monitor your baby age by yourself. I know my bb age even before i paid my first visit. There are plenty of them in Internet, but i prefer to use this one. It even shows you when is the conception date. :D I find the conception date and due date is very accurate as it is the same due date as given by my gynae.

Hi, I'm new here..Just found out I'm pregnant after seeing the 2 lines on the preganancy home kit. I was not expecting this but it's GOD's blessing and I'm looking forward to embrace the little one growing inside me. This will be my 3rd baby as I already have 2 kids, a daughter aged 6 and a son, toddler aged 15 months.

I used to see Dr. Fan from Tmn Desa Medical. The last delivery was done by him in Sunway Medical. However, this time round, I decided to change gynae. I'm wondering which gynae I wish to engage and which hospital to seek for delivery service. Reading all your posts here makes it positive to consider Columbia Specialist with Dr. Ng. Before this, I did thought about Britania Medical in Kajang. I had high recommendation from a neighbour. Anyway, called up Columbia. Apparently Dr. Ng is on leave until next Tuesday. In the meantime, think will pay a visit to Britania first on this Saturday for a check-up. Then maybe, I can decide if it's worth going all the way to Kajang.

Thanks so much for sharing ya all....

Hey Babysiew,

Thanks for your info...You have be really close to Dr. Ng to even know about his trip to Italy. By the way, since when did you started to see him? I recalled you saying that you went to Dr. Eugene but the machines in UMSC is so not-up-to-date. So you changed gynae and place to deliver. Is this your first baby? If, yes, you must be so excited and anxious now..hehhehhe..

Dear MB,

I just find out that I am pregnant and this is going to be my 1st baby. Very nervous and do not know what to do. When do I need to go for check up? Since there is alot of compliment on Dr. Ng, was thinking to have him as my gynae too. Please enlighten me as i am very blur and do not know what's the next step. Thanks

hi ice,

Congratulation!!! Nice to meet u in this thread beside Keep Gallery :p

I think u should go to gynea to confirm the pregnancy. The gynea ll advise u when is ur EDD. Then u can get some info what to do and not to do.

But honestly first few visits(1st trimester), nothing much or 'intensive' consultation from gynea. But i just go for the monthly checkup too. Cuz u can see ur baby growth. The feeling is very excited and 'sheng qi' when u see the baby from the screen. :)

Hey Beibei,

Happy that you are having a baby soon. Saw your lovely wedding pictures...It's magnificent. I really think the photgrapher who took the pictures did marvellously in his job. You and your hubby looked so nice....I just loved looking at wedding pictures...When me and hubby looked back at ours, we will laugh as ours looked like from dinosaur aged...hhehehehhe..

Seems like a lot of fans of Dr Ng. My wife delivered 1 week ago by Dr Raja. We've been seeing Dr Raja since beginning. She gave us very good impression. The average charges for each visit is about RM75-100, inclusivce of scanning and urine test. Every 4 weeks initially, then every 2 weeks and then weekly.

My comment, the hospital is relatively new. Not many patient. Not so congested. Even the nursery is a bit quite for a hospital. 3 babies there last week and my wife was the only mother there in labour room out of four. I was surprised because all this while I thought the mother will be straining in own room until ready to delivere only wheel to labour room. But we're place in the labour room once we checked in. The nurse hooked up all the instrument and preparing all the necessary thing. Nurses normally comprise of a younger nurse and a very experience nurse, or midwife, or supervisor. The senior one,or sister, is normally very experience. Not to say the young nurse not experience. She knows what she is doing but the experienced midwife and supervisor gave very detail explanation on everything, comforting the mother, give reassurance. She was holding and hugging the mother during epidural. Very grateful to her.

The labour room is very well equipped. Not everything state of the art but nice and steady. The bed is detachable at the end to accommodate the gynae. There are attachment for the stirrup and bandpiece for the mother to hole during "pushing". The vacumn unit, suction cup, clamp, forceps...are all within the the reach of the gynae. Oxygen, Nitrous oxide, suction for infant are all wall mounted at above the bed. Fluid is administed by the infusion set. Calculated to the required dose and assited my machine. Mother pulse and blood pressure is monitored by the machine every half and hour. There is also another machine to monitor foetal heart rate(audible) and uterine contraction. Baby bed was just next to mother's bed and heater is on top. I was very impressed with the set up of the labour room.

The anaesthetist, Dr Loy has my highest respect. He was very good. When he came in, he introduced himself. Talk to us, mostly leisure and unrelated stuff. Joking. Then he started explaining to us the procedure of epidural step by step. After the injection site is prep, he started his work. Although already explained the procedure, he still patiently inform us the next thing he's going to do. Very pro.

Our charges when discharged were about RM3200, inclussive of usage of labour room for 12 hours, vacumn assisted delivery, epidural, baby's bill, single bed. The financial assistants are very helpful too. Send us the notice to top up, send us the invoice, send us the refund and resit. We don't have to move anywhere, they will come to the room. The only complain I have is the food. Kind of bad. THe food at the canteen, expensive and taste horrible.

Here's some pictures I took.

Labour room. We're allowed to use up to 12 hours.

sorry 1 more Q.

Is Columbia encourage in Breast Feeding? Did the baby pass to mother to suck the breast within 1 hour right after delivery?

Yup, there are only 2 gynae, Dr Ng and Dr Raja (malay Lady). Of course the breast milk is recommended. Even the milk formula can, it is recommended breast milk is priority. Dr Raja gives good advice. She gave advice to try natural birth. She told us not to fix our mind on what delivery method first, natural will take it's course. Try natural birth first, if foetal distress, only try others. In our case, vacumn assisted delivery is the case. I don't want my wife to suffer throughout the contraction, so I put my feet down on epidural. It's true that there are such and such potential side effect, but to me, the benefit of her outweight the boy. It is lucky that she got the epidural because she even scream during dental scaling. She was able to sleep, read magazine, sms, play psp while contraction going on. Could feel the womb contracted hard like stone but she said feel like gas in the tummy.

Columbia asia provided an admission kit that has tooth brush, tooth paste, comb, shampoo, towel...Basic toiletries. But I think most girl will bring own stuff right. Just bring a set of baby cloth for discharge changes, cloth for mummy like sarong, and if got cord blood set, that's important. The top priority is to bring money, handphone and admission form. Gynae will give a piece of admission form so that you can hand over to the recep upon entering emergency. I got to put deposit on RM1500. I was quite panic because she got quite abit of bleeding. I thought the "Show" is like in the TV a lot of clear fluid but i was wrong. I thought she got placenta separation and she said baby not moving. I have to grab everything and dumb into car, still forgot to bring reading material.

In labour room, there were 2 nurses. One younger nurse and one midwife. When change shift, also a pair, one younger one and one supervisor. Occasionally, another supervisor will drop by to check and motivate you. Every nice of them. Gynae will come every 2-3 hours to check for cervical dilatation. No point for the dr to stay there to wait.

All in, everything is quite good. The only thing I wish they can improve is the post op care, especially important for first time mother. A lot of my friend delivered in Gov hospital. The hospital sent nurse to the house to check on baby and mother's wound. Episiotomy site is very delicate and easily contaminated. So have to take care properly. Somemore got to take laxative, that increase the amount of bacteria and chances of contamination. If no nurse to check on the wound, sometimes it is quite a handful

sorry 1 more Q.

Is Columbia encourage in Breast Feeding? Did the baby pass to mother to suck the breast within 1 hour right after delivery?

just remember to tell the nurse your intention to breast feed ur bb. either fully or partially

I delivered my bb via c-sec. b4 entering the operation theatre, i told the nurse my intention. when everything over n push me back to my room, the nurse mgr approach me, discussed n double confirm my request of breast feed my bb.

during the discussion, they do discuss bout the alternative. n i took their advice i.e. partially breastfeed my bb esp after considering the pain after the epidural effect wear off. believe me, as a first time mom, to latch on my bb with that pain, is killing me. but i have to thank the nurse for helping me to latch my bb on. the first few attempt took them hours. becoz of that, my bb manage to have the colostrum and subsequently they did send my bb to me when my bb cry for milk.

though my bb was fed with fm during the first few days stay in hospital, but she still accept bm. n once discharge from hospital, i fully breastfeed my bb since then.

if u insist want to have ur bb suck after 1 hr, i think they can send ur bb to u. just state clearly what's ur intention. that's all. :)

hope this info able to clarify your doubt.

Yes, you can request the nurse to bring you the baby for breast feeding. Actually as a consumer, we have the right to know everything. It is the Dr's job to explain to us all possible treatment choices and pros and cons for each of them. The nurse there very nice. Everytime we have visitor, we walked to nursery and knocked on the window to ask them to open the blind, but they said can just press the bell button to call nurse to bring baby. Also the nurse will bring the baby to mummy several times a day for breast feeding and bonding.

First time mother normally no milk yet. Some start to flow 3-4 days later and some even 1 week postnatal. Even if have milk, some will not have milk letdown because of obstructed milk ducts and canals. So lots of massaging, warm compression and squeezing, like in the case of my wife, very very painful. THat;s why it is encourage to do it before baby born or before engorged. But doing massaging during pregnancy might lead to contraction. So even if you insist the nurse to let you breast feeding, if there is no milk, the baby will be very frustrated. But still do because it will promote bonding. THe sucking mechanism itself stimilate milk production and milk letdown.

We just came back from columbia asia actually. Check up for baby and mummy at 1-week-old. So sakit hati to see them took blood from baby. Luckily no jaundice. Given 2 can of milk powder, similar advance protection. After see the gynae, she also gave another 2 cans. So today we spend about RM120-130, on mother and baby's bill, but 4 cans of milk already about that. So free milk. My boy finish 1 can of 400g in 4 days. I thought it is a cheaper formula milk, I got a shock when I bought the 900g one, RM63!!! I'm going to be so broke
