Agreed with all of you. Medical check up before married (for couple). We went to normal clinic and total cost is RM 250-280 (if not mistaken). Medical check-up for girl will be slightly expensive than guy. As there are additional of two or three check up points (but i cant recall the name).. :D

Hi all,

Me and my hubby did the test last year before our ROM at Pathlab.not costly at all...he choose GS38 general screening with RM99, and i choose 18ks general screening + tumour marker at Rm150. both not much different, just mine have add on some screening for tumour and theumatoid factor ( 'guan jie yan').

Actually general blood test nowaday already included VDRL (is a kind of STD), Thalassaemia, Hepatitis screen. Somemore u can check your others health condition. My test included:

1. Haematology (blood fluid analysis)- important for Thalassaemia screening..this checking is to make sure ur red blood cells are in normal size range. If different, then u only need to do futher test for thalassaemia ( Pathab o BP lab not provide this service, need to do in medical center.)

2.Diabetes screen

3.kidney function tests

4. Lipid profile - check our cholesterol

5. Liver function tests

6. Hepatitis screen

7. Thyroid screen - test for Goiter disease

8. Serology - VDRL ( 'mei du') will test here

9. urinalysis - test our urine

The assistant in Pathlab helped to screen our report and explain to us..no worry if u cannot understand those medical term.

The test is simple only...I know other medical center may provide other detail test, but price also very high. I asked a friend of mine who is a doctor in General Hospital, he said it's fine.

These are just my opinion :P

Good luck

hI,

Is it safe to do it at clinic? I remember I had one medical checkup done at a nearby clinic and the clinic actually sent the blood sample to Pathlab.

hi sweetcandy,

sure safe do in clinic..the advantage is clinic doctor can help to read ur report and give u advice..but it may charge higher. If do it in Pathlab, there will be an assistant to help to explain the report for u too..It's up to you to decide where to do the blood test

Hi Rachel, hope that i'm not too late. i' a newbie here.

OK, for ur question, the test that a couple wil do before their marriage we call it PRE-MARITAL SCREENING package , including

i)Blood Grouping

ii)Full blood picture ( can screen for anemia, thalassaemia, abnormalities of blood cells )

iii)G6PD Screening

iv)Hepatitis B Screening

v)VDRL ( a STD)

vi)Urine FEME & Smear ( urine test)

vii) Anti -HIV I & II

viii) Rubella

This is just a basic package which is needed for pre-marital checking, but if u never done ur full body check up ( blood & urine), u better do it together.

For Down syndrome, u can ask for TRIPLE TEST when u are 8 weeks pregnant.

HI agnescht, usually Dr will advice to go for Thalassamia Studies (its available at BP Lab) if u're suspected as a Thalassaemia sufferer , they will check for ur Full blood picture result 1st, if ur blood cells / range appeared to be abnormal then onli u go for Thalassaemia studies ( ~ Rm150). U can do ur blood test at clinic too, but they will send to clinical labs to proceed the test ( Gribbles, Pathlab, BP Lab etc etc), if u wanna get faster result without delay ( due to blood & urine samples delivery), u are advised to do it at Labs ( BP, Pathlab or specialist hospitals which have their own lab). Remember to look for Dr to explain ur report too ( pathlab no Dr, but BP have).

Cheers.

hi all,

thalasemia is one of the killer disease in malaysia.if u suspected tat u hav thalasemia, better check b4 u plan for bigger family.hospitals provide counselling for these couples.u may think that u dun wun to check coz if positive and is pregnant, then will hav dilemma.but think of the baby when it comes out.my both my PIL are either minor or carrier, and the outcome, hubby has two sister suffering from thalasemia major.hubby oso got minor.one of her sister has to undergo blood trasfusion every month to replace the low HB.they even hav to go for specialist check up every month on hematology, eye, liver function and etc..so can say most of their time spent in hospital.it realy break my heart to see her sister put her desperil every nite(she has to self inject the needle and she's only 13).for me,i will hav my blood test this weekend.but hopefully everything will b ok, coz i'm a regular blood donator while still in uni.of coz i will b informed if my blood got rejected, rite)still, cross my finger and hope for a good outcome la.dun wun our child to suffer.worst come to worst, adopt a baby la, i dun wun my baby to hav hospital as his or her second home.

Aiyoh, G6PD is normal la bro.

Im a carrier as well. What is there to worry?

In fact, my wife and I didnt do any test also we got married.

I tell you what G6PD is la. It is a disease where the blood is missing something. Not deadly but cannot consume too much nuts based food. You can say its a bit like food allergic. If eat too much, will cause the red blood cells to break up and therefore losing oxygen supply. Maybe the doctor simplified too much but I can assure you its not deadly.

Just remember to inform your doc that you are G6PD and he will avoid the medicine which might contain ingredients that might cause the red blood cells breakup.
