Free & Easy Hong Kong Trip

Recommended Posts

Wormy,

There are quite a few which are good but we booked the superior room in the tower wing at Royal Pacific hotel (at Tsim Sha Tsui, close to the Harbour city). They got two wings which are hotel (with harbour view) and this tower wing. The hotel wing rooms are more expensive.

We paid USD89 per room per night without breakfast. They quoted me USD119 for the hotel wing.

Hullo girls.. hubby and I went to Macau/HK in April.. weather was beginning to turn warmer tht time, so no prob with clothings.. oh yes.. pls pls pls do not say "da pao" hahahaha.. it's "Lek Chau" or "Ngoi Mai".. I didnt know this and at KFC in Mongkok, I said "Da pao" and the irritating girl asked so loud "Arrrr... meh wah?" That's when I knew I've said something wrong so I switched back to English and told her I'll take away. I think tht day she must hv been scolded by her boss or had an argument with her bf for she doesnt let me off the hook so easily.. she kept on repeating in Cantonese.. "What? What PAU ar?? What did you say just now? What PAU ar? What pau do you want ar????" :D

I also took the go holiday package from Air Asia, to Macau only both of us only paid RM3800 for 10D9N for return air tix, 9N accom in Grand Waldo Resort, Macau (a 5 star resort which charges MOP1,880 per night for the most basic room!!!) and daily breakfast. Well, the hotel is superb, I will strongly recommend this..

But then, I didnt do enough research before booking for this vacation coz everyone was rushing to book the free seats like mad tht time!! I tot we'll fly and stay in Macau, then take the ferry to HK for 2-3 days.. however, I must say that everything in HK is so so so so so expensive, I dun really enjoy it! But of course, all this is also due to our poor planning lar! I would strongly recommend u to take the free & easy package coz at least they cover our accom, which is super duper expensive in HK...

The ferry fare from Macau to HK (Tsim Tsa Tsui in Kowloon) cost MOP140 per person. It's slightly more for Macau to HK ferry terminal. We went to the ferry terminal inTsim Tsa Tsui coz we stayed in Mongkok where our supplier is. From HK back to Macau (This time from HK terminal at Sheung Wan) it's HKD172 per person. Take note too - personally I think you should go for Shun Tak Ferry instead of First Ferry coz hubby and I felt so dizzy with First Ferry that we even thought of catching a flight back to Macau! BUt then we tried Shun Tak to go back to Macau, it was a breeze! Oh yes.. considering that the ferry fare is not cheap, for those staying in Macau and planning to go to HK on daily basis.. maybe you should work out the cost first.. if 1 trip per person is about HKD172, to and fro per day for 2 persons will come up to HKD688, equivalent to about RM300++ for a day's travel.. kinda expensive I would say!

And if you dun go by free & easy package, the accom cost will kill you! :( We stayed in Mongkok for 5 nights and our pocket really come out blood!!! You see.. we stayed in Stanford Hotel in Mongkok, very convenient, near to the ladies market, sports shoes and electronic market and all.. but the room rate is like HKD1400 walk in... we got the corporate rate from our supplier's a/c and it's HKD700.. then so ngam the weekend we went there, there's 2 exhibitions going on so most hotels are fully book and stanford actually refused to let us extend unless we pay HKD1400 as walk in guest! That would be RM700 for a miserable night.. and for what? to sleep in for few hours only? Coz hubby and I rayau rayau until midnight only go back to hotel one.. so not worth it lor. Imagine RM700 in KL can get what kind of hotel & treatment oredi!!

So I started calling up the Hong Kong Association Hotel - I dont think a lot of ppl know of this..sort of like insider info :P coz given to me by our supplier. You can call them up and ask about the rate for any hotels in HK. Very convenient coz u dun have to call up each hotel individually. So let's say you wanna stay around Kowloon or Yau Ma Tei.. just tell the operator and she will give you all the rates of hotel there.. hehehe..

Anyway, the shocking thing I got to know is.. (maybe due to the exhibition).. all hotels were very expensive, out of their mind!! And have to book fast or else all fully book then u kena sleep under the jambatan like in HK drama!!! I surveyed for hotels around Mongkok/Yau Ma Tei/Jordan where the happening night markets are located.. the rates ranged from HKD1800-HKD2200 per night.. itupun not 4 or 5 star hotel ler.. best of all, even YMCA Yau Ma Tei charges at HKD1760 per night!! :o So in the end, hubby and I opted for 1N in those budget hotel and 1N in Disneyland for that weekend. Disneyland got 2 hotels - Disneyland Hotel & Hollywood Hotel. Hollywood is the cheaper one, also charging at HKD1808 per night, might as well stay in disneyland and get the experience rather than some dogdy 3 star hotel for the same price right! Oh yes, be careful when you go for those budget hotel.. choose one which is at least decent looking a bit lar or else you know what kind of activities are going on in there! There was one night, we walked to 4-5 hotels, all fully booked, so tired with the luggages and all, we just settled down for 1 which looked quite geli one.. hey, tht also HKD500 okie.. more expensive than our 5 star hotel in KL! Ermmm.. their TV ar.. showing those porn movies lor.. kekekeke... and they actually supply condom, OMG.. tht was the last time we're gonna step into this kind of hotel.. I felt so uncomfortable and geli, had to remove the blanket and all - just imagine WHO used it oredi and how much stains there..

Personally, I think the HK Disneyland can skip lar.. quite disappointing and small... unless you got kids then still ok kua.. if not.. ermmm.. nothing much lor.. takkan two 30 years old sitting on carousel and all? Ermmmm~~~~ Oh BTW they're open from 10am to 8pm everyday. Normal days entrance fee is HKD299, weekends & PH would be HKD350...food inside very limited and needless to say, very expensive! If you're going to have more than 1 meal there, I would suggest tht you go try one of their restaurant there (expensive), then for 2nd meal or wht, go to Starliner Diner in Adventureland there, it's a lot cheaper and they serve food like KFC.. got fried chickens, burgers, etc... They are selling "Chicken Basket" with 3 piecces of fried chicken + fries or rice + drink for only HKD40 compared to dining in Main Street Corner Cafe, we paid HKD140 for spring chicken + Pork chop rice + 2 mushroom soup!! And when I was in HK, went to The Peak and Madame Tussaud's Museum, they have this combo package for The Peak+Museum at HKD125 per person. Since there oredi, then just go for the museum lor.. and hey.. so unfair.. they have 3 of the 4 heavenly kings - aaron kwok, andy lau and leon lai but NOT jacky cheung!!!

Oh yes, food also not cheap. Being a sucker for pizza (esp Pizza Hut). I went to "Da Pao" 2 slices back to the hotel to eat. You know the large pan, cut into 6 pieces that size? It cost me HKD20 per slice!!! If I dun rber wrongly, 1 pan of family favourite pizza cost HKD90, that's about RM45 for what that we normally pay RM25 in Malaysia?!!!

That's why I would recommend that you go for the free & easy package. at least they cover the accom and some meal.. then you wont so "sam thong" when come out somuch money.. you can use tht money to shop shop shop instead!!!

My friend recommended me this Dragon Hostel near Mongkok MTR station. Very convenient and reasonable price.

Near to ladies street and etc.

This is a clean budget hostel and they change their bedsheet daily according to my friends.

Please visit www.dragonhostel.com

I am going on 9-13 Jan08. Anybody want to join me? : )

Hi!

My friend booked Dragon Hostel for her trip in June this year.

But she had to change to Dorsett Seaview the next day as the condition at Dragon Hostel was unacceptable.

PLUS she had to pay extra high price for Dorsett Seaview as it was so last minute.

Please reconsider.

Besides shopping, food is another great thing about HK.

I recommend you to try the steamboat at Tao Heung. http://www.taoheung.com.hk/eng/main/index.jsp

They haf branches both in Kowloon and HK island but I personally prefer the one on Hennessy Road in Wan Chai. Very nice!!

They have Pigs stomach soup (chu tou tong) as soup base. Yum!

Also, there's a dessert shop called Sweet Dynasty (糖朝 - tong chiu) in TST. http://www.sweetdynasty.com.hk

Best! It's opposite Harbour City shopping centre.

If you see AX at the corner, walk straight with AX on your right and Harbour City on your left. It's further up.

fong28,

i'm planning my trip to HK/Macau via AirAsia cos got free ticket during the promotion... mind to share with me your itinerary plan?

my email address is rosayee@hotmail.com

Thanks for sharing :)

Hi girls!

I just returned from a trip to HK via AirAsia a couple of weeks ago. It was a fantastic trip! :)

Branded outlets, did I hear? Try Citygate Outlets (they also have a very cute website), it's a shopping centre at the Tung Chung MTR station (this is where you take the cable car to Lantau Island). They have Timberland, Nike, Adidas, Esprit, Rockport, City Chain, and many others. I had to drag my boyfriend away from that place - he wanted to raid every shoe store there! Because of his eagerness, we were a bit late taking the cable car to Lantau.

About cable car to Lantau, I advise you to go early because the cable cars are known to stop. I queued up from 10.45am before I finally boarded at 12.30pm. Thankfully, my ride did not stop and I didn't have to hang in mid-air for hours. Lantau cable car (aka Ngongping 360) ticket counter opens at 10am. MTR trip from Causeway Bay to Tung Chung takes about 45-50 minutes.

I actually have an itinerary planned in Word document. If anyone would like a copy of the itinerary, pls PM me.

But you still can book that hotel separately, choose "hotel only" tab.

Have you stay in Stanford before?

Does anyone have tour packages for 4d/3n or 5d/4n HongKong Macao and Disneyland?

I got some from Reliance website but not keen on their day tour because I've been to the places years ago and going to Ginseng, Pearl factory is wasting of time.

Hi Tomato,

I have a recommendation for you too. Have you visited the "Peak Tram 山頂纜車", go up with Train at the "Zhong Wan", once exit from Zhong Wan MTR, just follow the signed board to Peak Tram. Come down use bus (must prepared syiling). The bus station is located at the shopping centre. Take the van bus. The bus will stop near "Lan Kuai Fong", then you can shop around or go to Lan Kuai Fong. You may plan to go up Peak Tram by 6pm, so you can view evening & night scenery.
